Registration and Plates

Can anyone here give me an idea of what they paid for their registration/plates in Denver county. I bought an 06 S about a month ago and sales tax was included in the final cost.

I paid just under 200 to register this year but I am in Douglas county. I know another member paid about the same recently. So it should be a little more since they are going to hit you with the first years ownership tax based on the taxable value of the car. Look for it to be about 250ish. Everyone is paying more this year since the state is broke and they ahd to raise money from somewhere. You will notice the new charge as the "Road and Bridge" tax.

Welcome to Mile High you joined while I was out of town so I haven't seen your posts until today. Are you in the Denver area?

You should go to the Corsport car show tomorrow at 12 there are going to be some members from the boards there. Meet some people eat some food, stare at cars, all great activities for a Sat.

Doesn't it depend on how much you pay for the car? Most expensive car I have bought up here was an '03 G35 which I paid $19,500 for. Registration (minus taxes) was around $350.

I am hoping it's not over $350 and $250 would be great actually. I guess I will see when I head over there. Gotta get my emissions test still.

I'm guessing its going to be $300+ for first year plates. Mine last year (MY01) was just under $200.

Yes it is based on how much you pay for the car but the original taxable value still comes into play, this way it prevents people from selling cars for $1.00 on paper to avoid taxes all around.

From Colorado's site:

Specific Ownership Taxes
  • These taxes are based on the year of manufacture of the vehicle and the original taxable value which is determined when the vehicle is new and does not change throughout the life of the vehicle.
  • Ownership tax is in lieu of personal property tax. Vehicles do not need to be operated in order to be assessed this tax.
  • The ownership tax rate is assessed on the original taxable value and year of service
    • Original taxable value is 85% of manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP).
    • The annual specific ownership tax is based on the year of service.
You should definately go even if you are stock you could go to see the cars.

Ya sounds complicated, I found a formula on there once that came out to about 350 ish so hopefully i don't have to drop more coin than that. I would like to do some tasteful mods instead.
