That will potentially be a significantly more challenging driving event than usual as it could very well be quite cool. You may be biting off more than you want to chew with racetrack speeds, cold temps/tires/brakes, and a whole new way of driving for you.
Just a friendly suggestion that you really think about whether it's the best time of year to be learning to drive your car near, at, or over the limit. |

I agree, you shouldn't be any where near the limits of the car on your first time out. I know I wasn't, even though it felt like it at first, but by the third session I felt more comfortable and realized that this great little car has a lot more to give than I'm ready to take.
.......... then Go for it.

I think there's a bit of misunderstanding here.
The limits of the car are one thing. The limits of the driver in a new and fast-paced situation are completely different. You may overdrive the car even though you're at 70% of its limits and put it over its limits just by being hamfisted or braking into a corner or something. A hot track with sticky tires is generally going to be more forgiving than a cold one with moderately warm tires, is all I'm saying. My Falkens are still fairly hard in 55-60*F weather and overdriving them is very easy. That's the kind of weather he can expect in January, probably. If nothing else, be especially careful. That's all. |

Signed up but will see how it goes with my traveling schedule then.
I went on Jan 19, 2008 and it was quite cold and over cast the whole weekend and it would take 3 laps to completely warmed up the tires, and so was this past weekend.. The thing about driving the car at the track is to learn how to feel your car with your bootie and control.. Go for it Corry, and you will be fast by summer time ![]() |

AC would be an excellent instructor for your first track session.

This is a The Driver's Edge event. Wouldn't Cory need to get a hold of Rick? Harley |

I'm already registered. The cold weather should give me the opportunity to become a better driver. I got my first chance to see just how slick the track is before it warms up last weekend on my first run. It is very eye opening not to mention having to clean my pants out.
