Does anyone use just regular 85 or 87 octane in their s2000's here in Colorado and then just add octane booster? Is it ok to do that?

Only the best for my baby!!
But here's something to think about: if you read the back of the bottle very carefully, I believe you will see that it raises the octane by no more than 1 octane and you're spending $6 for it.

I thought it was one tenth of an octane point that the booster raised. Either way, I'm sticking with the good stuff, just as Honda intended.

Yeah, it something ridiculously low. They word it to make it sound like you are going to get 10 more octane and you don't.

With 87 the knock sensors will retard the spark advance giving you worse performance and doing damage in the long term.
You can add 2 bottles of CD2 Offroad and move the octane up from 91 to about 92.5. But it will cost about $16.00 a tank full to do it and you really don't know what you've got in the end.
With the stock ECU 91 will work fine and if you want more octane add 3 gallons of 100 unleaded to 10 of 91 and you will get 93.4.(necessary for a Mugen ECU).

Jeremie,
Everything I have read says "no, don't do it" and that is the philosophy I have been using in mine. One of my beemers called for premium and I used to alternate between premium and regular with no noticeable adverse affects. My present ST also calls for premium and when I tried a tank of regular in it, the engine "seemed" to labor more and I could faintly detect some pinging. Not worth the risk, IMHO. As silk mentioned, the elevation is what hurts us.

Also with regards to gas up here are there some places to stay away from?

 Premium is the only way to go 93 octane, only thing that sucks is the gas price $3.15 plus. But it's an S
Octaine boost helps and you can somewhat feel the enhancement. I try to use octane boost at least one a month before I fill up.

I don't know - really depends on who you talk to and how much you believe in "top tier" gas. I buy almost all my gas from at Sams and have never had any problem. Not an option for you in Fort Collins (at least the last I looked, they do not have gas at yours).
-for those stations with a single hose for all grades of gas, consider how much liquid is in the pump from the previous sale. you may not get as much Premium as you think.
-i would not run the car hard with a lower grade of gas
-whatever you do its only a 10% difference in cost.

If you do a search on this site, you'll find plenty of instances where I express my opinion about "Top Tier" gasoline...
Though I have to say, aside from the occasional fill-up where you don't have any other choiceI would stay away from the cheap "white pumps", too. The lack of detergents and other additives that are part of the branded gas packages will make a difference in the long run. You probably won't care if yuo trade in yor cars after two or three years (let the next guy worry about it), but if you are like me and keep your cars around a bit longer, you should at the very least alternate between unbranded and branded fuel.

It is interesting to see the different octane values offered across the country. When I was in Colorado last year, the cheap gas was 85 octane. I don't remember the others - but they didn't have 93 at all. The highest one anywhere was like 91. (though I think the altitude compensates and you don't ping at the lower octanes).
In my area (Dallas, Tx), the usual gas grades are 87 for cheap, 89 for mid, and 93 for supreme

The 85 octane in Colorado is because of the elevation. The 91 here "works the same" as 93 at lower elevations.

In most places around Colorado, 91 is the highest you can get. But there are a few places that have 93. Every once and a while when I am near a gas station that has 93, I'll stop by and put a tank of 93 in.
