I just got a bike Saturday so I might be up for taking it to the track. I wouldn't mind getting more time on it first since I'm a noob.
describe the bike
track/canyon = sliders, race boots & gloves, leathers (at least a jacket) full helmet

2006 GSX-R600
Have helmet. Jacket, boots, gloves, and pants are being ordered tonight hopefully. Do I need leather or will textile jacket and pants be good enough? I've got to figure out what sliders to order also.

look at this guy's used stuff.
sliders:
Intuitive Race Products ((949)586-0514 inturace.com), call or email the peeps that make them, you can buy directly from them or once you get their recomindation for a p/n order from 3rd party. get the best up front for the bike, this is the most inportant mod. get a racing type that bolts directly to the frame, get the install torque values. they come in colors whatnot but get the most compatable with track racing usage.
leathers / jacket
no reason a textile jacket would not work, good for winter riding but i would not own one, any jacket should have hard plastic protection all over. you will also need to buy a summer jacket soon (Joe Rocket mesh phoenix type) but for the track a leather jacket is highly functional. The top three are: Denise (soft leather) Vanson (usa made), ku****ani (japa made $$$), the stuff at performance cycle on broadway is semi functional, its your hide. a 2 piece suite is great, tends to come apart in >40mph getoff tho. get pants with a knee puck and it should zip to your jacket, zip all the way around best, baggy ass fitment. jacket fitment should include room for a possible back protector.
describe your boots (you tried on these right, sidi fits good, alpinestar sux) and gloves (~$130.00 get some w/ hard plastic on the back of the had joints, each finger).
a new bike has a break in method/period, are you past this?
get some rear plastic swing arm spools from Intuitive while you are there.
get the pitbull bike stands from someplace inexpensive, the back stand you will need soon.
you will drop it, somepeople take off the new plastic farings and get race plastic for everyday use.
kneedraggers.com is a ok place to buy whatever.

What size is everything, especially the helmet, color?
Jah,
I'll post what stuff I was planning on getting tonight and see what you think.
As far as break in I've got about 100 miles on it, factory recommends <8000 rpm for the first 600 miles, but I'm going for a harder break in recommended by the dealer.
Man this is starting to get expensive, It might be a few months before I attempt getting on a track, I haven't ridden in a few years and even that was just a few hundred miles at the most on my friends bike.
Right now I'm going through withdrawls since I left it in Nebraska, becuase I forgot to bring my tie downs and trailer ball with me. Oh well I'll get it this weekend.
expensive:
go to performance in town here and try on some stuff, take notes and buy it used, ebay, kneedraggers etc. ck out the guy above, his used stuff. sportbike riders have a lot of turn over, this generates lots of parts etc. the mra (i think mra-racing.org and they have a yahoo.com club) in denver may have riders getting out. take a look at stuntlife.com, lots of parts there. there must be a r6 site but reference gixxer.com their 4sale section
I left it in Nebraska:
got a ramp and/or a valley strap if you want, i work in longmont
Ok so you guys are asking what to wear at the track. Well here is my setup. Full 1 peice leather suit, with kevlar in all key spots ie: shoulders, arms, knees, shins. I also have a back brase. Alpine stars, boots, gloves, all with plastic reinforcements. My helmet is a bit lacking as its only a KBC. will upgrade to a shoie when i have the cash. Also I do have knee sliders, and 1 of my bikes do have frame sliders, I havent put frame sliders on the second one yet. I will swear by my life on this gear, as i have been down with it on at 120mph and i walked away with only a brused ego. total price was about 1300 bucks 1500 if I had gone with a better helmet.
Also if ya guys want to do a bike day with me at the track let me know, I should be going this weekend on saturday the 15. I usualy go around 10am till about 4 or when ever i run outa gas. And incase you didnt guess, this vid is of my on my CBR RR600 about 2 months ago at Erie.

my son ethan and i went to the new track by centennial airport. i wasn't planning on driving today, but the track was empty due to a big race in grand junction. ethan and i had the track to our selves. its a pretty nice track, fairly long, good staights, lots of turns and s turns. ethan kept pushing it to the limit and tried to drift on his turns and spun out a couple of times, he doesn't understand the line since he's only 14. a good time was had. the best time for us to go out there is when their is a race, then most of the racers are not practicing.
where is this track? Can you give us a link to it? Whats its name?
