Some time ago I had an after market windshield installed due to the fact that the original could not be seen through in bright sun light. While putting on a second coat of Zaino on Saturday much to my surprize I saw 2 parallel cracks from the bottom to the top in the center of the windshield directly under the rearview mirror mounting point. There is no evidence of any impact and the cracks are in the inner layers of the glass. In a couple days my local Honda dealer will extract $825.00 from my pocket to put in a new one.

I think I would take it buy one or two glass places and see what they have to say. If they say it looks to be a defect, then Honda should handle the repairs free of charge. I have a neighbor who did that with his Accord and was glad he did, I think he save around $650.00. The glass places generally will not charge you for the estimates in the hopes to get your business, but even if you are upfront with them they will still probably give you a free estimate.

As I said it is not a factory windshield so I doubt Honda will do anything and unfortunately I cannot find the receipt from the after market glass co. On top of all that I want a factory original window put in. But thanks for the suggestion.

desmo4,

Not quite along the lines of meat's robust suggestion, I have had large and small chips that have made the windshield risky to use and claimed the replacement under my comprehensive auto coverage. You will be liable for the deductable amount stated in the comprehensive section of your policy.

I'm fairly sure that your insurance carrier would rather have you make the claim for a windshield than to pay for a full blown accident caused by a risky windshield.

You are right to replace it by any means. You can't go safely where you can't see.

New glass is installed. It turns out the after market window was not even the correct height. I am searching for the receipt to attack the merchant and the Honda dealer will back it up.
