You guys, start booking now. Or, we will loose these rooms(like Camp Creek).
The hotels would like to have us booked within the next week and a half from today. So start pairing up with others (if that's your intention), whip out that plastic, pick up the phone and book ASAP!

First night, Fri 26th:

Best Western (Camp Creek Inn fell through; booked solid)
Pinedale Inn
Pinedale, WY
Contact: Sue
307-367-6869
$89.95 2 beds/room

Second Night, 27th: (Pahaska Teepee Lodge deleted; to far away from park)

Super 8
Gardiner, MT
Contact: Judy
406-848-7401
$54.00 2 beds/room

Third Night, 28th:

Super 8
Cody, WY
Contact: David or Rita
307-527-6214
$69.29 1 or2 bed(s)/room

When booking your room, tell them you are with the S2000 Club of America. All lodging needs to be paid for up front as we are only staying one night at each place. 48 hrs cancellation notice applies.

Unfortunately, there's no group rate for lodging within the park and no group rate for the park pass. The park pass is $25 and good for both Yellowstone and Teton up to 7 days. So, the passes that we buy in Teton are the ones that we will use in Jellystone.

Add 6 tanks of gas to your totals.

At this point we have:

Monica and myself
Denver
Kyle
Silk
Tim G.
Will E.
Scott & cute seat warmer
Michael
Alan and hopefully Craig (NSX) to join us on the way out.
Maybe Betty & Ted too, maybe...
Eric and Gretchen to join us on the way back.

On a side note:
I know there is some interest in lodging at Thermopolis because of the hotsprings there.
If we leave the park earlier Sun, we could make that destination.

However, the trip was designed to enjoy the park as much as possible, so most of Sat and Sun were set aside for this. I think we should stick to this original plan. This would make Cody a reasonable/do-able destination for night 3.

So, who else is in for the Yellowstone trip May 26th – 29th (Fri-Mon)?
I'll update this as ppl reply. -j

In looking for a route, I was trying to get us away from the main hwy roads, cops and congestion but also making sure to avoid dirt roads.

Route:

Day 1
Meet at L&J early morning the day we leave.
Go west on 6 up the canyon to I70. Conitinue west on 70 to 40 at Empire.
Take 40 north over Berthoud Pass (photo opp) through Winter Park, Steamboat and on to Craig. Turn north on 13/ 789 and go up into WY.
At I80, take a left and go west to Rock Springs.
At Rock Springs, hang a right and go north on 191 to Pinedale, WY.
This leg is about 450 miles.

Day 2 & 3
Continue north on 89 through Hoback Junction, Jackson, Teton Nat Park and on to Yellowstone.
Hang for 2 days. seeing the sights. Circling the park is approx 100 miles.
Lodging in Gardiner, MT (1/2 mile outside north entrance of park)
Continue enjoying the Park for day 3 then leave east on 14 to Cody.
Lodging in Cody for night 3.
Roughly 400+ miles, both days combined.

Day 4
Leave Cody, take a right on 120 going SE to Meeteetse, Thermopolis.
At Thermopolis, Take a right and go south on 20 to Shoshoni.
Continuing east through Shoshoni on 20 to Casper.
In Casper, go south on 220 to 487 to Medicine Bow, Rock River and Laramie.
Take 287 south out of Laramie, cross WY/CO border to Ft Collins.
From there, hop onto I25 and head home.
About 450 – 475 miles for this leg.

If you make this an annual event and give a decent heads-up (say, about 6 months or so) I could be in for next year. :)

Need a litle more information.
1. Are you planning on entering through the Northeast entrance (Cody)?
2. What's the weather condition like in late May? Seems a little early for Yellowstone.
3. Need any assistance in planning what to see? I've vacationed there about two million times (okay, I lied, maybe only 15 or 20 times).
This sounds like a great idea. If I can arrange it, I will definitely be there (weather permitting).

Mangonel-
We're planning on entering through the southern ent just north of the Teton NP(Jackson).

I talked to Angela at Pahaska Tepee and she said that time of year, anything could happen. Could be 80, could be snowing. She added that they have had a milder winter than most.

Tips on visiting the park would be much appreicaited; I haven't been there since I was a child. -j

YOU ROCK JOHN. Thanks for taking the bull by the horns with this. I am soooo excited. It would be great if we could get people from other Regions to join as well.

The more the merrier for sure.

Take care,

Now, don't forget to put this event (and all your other ones as well) on the official S2KCA calendar. :)

And an event like this could really turn into something big in the future. If you plan it right and do a little bit of advertising, you could turn it into something like the Winter Wine Tour (http://www.s2kca.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=124).

Grand Teton entry sounds great. My parents live in Pinedale, so we could probably meet there if you are going through (in Pinedale, not at my parent's house).
I'll start checking my maps and books for some good areas to see. Hope you are continuing to work on in-park specials. You really need to stay in the park to get the most of your visit. Otherwise the drives can eat a lot of your time.

I was there in late may a few years ago. The weather was great, upper 60's to mid 70's the whole time I was there. It rained a couple of days, but not for more than a couple hours. The rain made everything fresh and beautiful. I can't wait for this trip!!

Silk - It is good to see that you are planning on making this trip. Are you going to be bringing the S, or are you going to drive your truck?? We all know how you are about putting miles on your S.

We're showing up at your parents house; I already talked to them!
They said we could stay the night.
J/K!!
We're cruising right through Pinedale and heading into Hoback Junction for lodging. We'd love to hook up with you there (at Pinedale) and have you along for this one! Hell, you can be our park guide!
So, can I add you to the list?

On the up-side, Hillary at Camp Creek said she doesn't think we'll have anything worse than rain that time of year. -j

John - I really can't say at this time. Chances are that if I am able to make it I won't have the time to make the drive so if I do come I might be looking for a passenger seat. The other possibility is if I can talk my good friend Julie (who just moved there) into going.

I have a lot to figure out first and I haven't even brought it up with Juls yet.

I'll let you know as soon as I can though.

Hillary (Camp Creek) is going to call me tonight. Ppl who want to save some $ by sharing rooms, need to start pairing up. In the case of Camp Creek, triple-up (3 beds/room is available). I recommend one person paying for the room via cc and the other roomies reimburse the card holder.

Keep you posted. -j

Pinedale to Gardiner is a REALLY long one day trip! Don't expect very fast traffic in the Park. Have you tried to get rooms in West Yellowstone instead? That would even the drive out better over those two days. Remember the speed limit in the Park is often only 35 MPH. I think you would end up driving some beautiful, curvy roads in the dark if you go to Gardiner.

The Mangonel lives in the Seattle area and apparently he will drive anywhere. :D If you don't have the opportunity to meet him in Yellowstone you could always caravan down to S2KDays in San Antonio this fall. He'll be there. ;)

Ray - any chance your route would go through Denver?

He could meet up with me when I drive down so we can drive down together with whoever is heading down from denver with me.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread so maybe I'll start a new one for caravans to S2KDays from all parts of the country. We also have GLTYFUN coming down from Seattle as well. It's still early but maybe it's time to start planning...new thread on the way. :)

Silk;
Good guess. I work for MWR as a outdoor recreation guide. My specialty is kayaking; teaching and conducting trips. The Yellowstone trip doesn't look real promising right now. I'm taking the wife on a two day trip out to the most Northwestern point in the Continental US today. That's because the weather sucks until her surgery. It'll be our last chance for a S2000 trip for quite a while. :waa:
As for S2KCA days, we're planning on taking about a week to get there. Haven't laid out our full plans yet, but Vegas will be in there somewhere (and Reno). Don't know if we'll get out toward Denver yet. GLTYFUN is going also. She lives about 18 miles down the road. I don't think we'll be traveling together since the wife and I are taking the long, slow way there.

Honestly, Pinedale will be hard to book. There's a LOT of oil and gas work going on up there and the hotels book up VERY quickly. I've actually stayed at that Best Western before. It's a decent hotel as far as Pinedale goes.

Alright, 2 out of the 3 reservations are done.

A little off topic, but I'm gonna need some new tires for the 18's before this trip. Anyone got a hook-up??

I might be able to get you hooked up with some tires, depends on what kind of tires you want. I'm not sure if I could mount them though.

There should be room, but you have to call the numbers listed on the 1st page ASAP!
Do NOT go online or call 1-800 #s as you wont get the deal that's been prearranged.
Call the local #s listed and mention the S2K club. Hopefully they still have some left.
Let us know what you end up doing so I can add you to the list. -j

This sounds like it will be a great trip with great photo opportunities. Would one the participants like to volunteer to take some photos and write a short article about the road trip to Yellowstone for the Club's newsletter (summer edition)?
