Registration is now open (http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/html/aboutevents2-3-06_lsir.html) for S2KCA members to reserve their spot on the grid for our next track day at famed Laguna Seca racetrack, Thursday Feb. 2nd, 2006! As with all of the club's track events, this one promises to be terrific. Once again we are partnering with TrackMasters Racing to provide all the novice drivers with in-car instructors, and classroom sessions will follow each run session.
If you've never driven your car on track, then don't miss this opportunity to do it in a safe, fun environment at a truly world-class facility! Like all of our Laguna Seca track days, this will sell out fast, so don't delay, people! It won't be easy to find track time at Laguna this year due to the track closure for a couple peak-season months for track improvements. And the days you can find certainly won't be anywhere near this inexpensive...
Registration is only $225 for S2KCA members!!!
Non-member registration costs $255, so tell your friends that they can go on the cheap too! :D
Visit http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/html/aboutevents2-3-06_lsir.html for further details on this event. All event registrations and payments will be handled thru the TMR website.
See you there! :w00t:
Great news and a great price!!!

Hi. I'm registered and payed as well, although I didn't receive any confirmation (except from paypal). Is that normal, or did I do it wrong? Should I check with TM? Incidentally, it will be my first time at a track, so I look forward to meeting some of you and hope you won't mind answering some idiotic newby questions. Happy Holidays, Adam.

Glad you're going to make it out! The PayPal confirmation is all you need. I assume you've submitted your car and experience info on the TMR site, too, right?
As for being a rookie, that's no problem at all! Actually, that's kinda the point of the event... to provide S2KCA members a safe environment to learn about car control and such. As will all novice drivers, an in-car instructor will be provided for you, plus you'll have plenty of classroom time too. :)

Any updates? I tried to sign up last week and apparently I'm on a waiting list. Our Laguna track day is completely sold out. However, if enough interest is shown by tomorrow we may be able to pay Laguna an "extra car fee" which will enable us to have 5 extra cars per run group. So if there's anyone else out there who wants to go, please make it known now!!
Great news the event is sold out!!

Okay watermain, you're in! We got just enough late sign-ups to justify paying to have an extra five cars on track.
So technically I guess that means that the event is un-sold out now.

A message from Doug:
Greetings TrackMasters Racers,
This message is going out to those currently registered to attend the Feb 2nd and Feb 3rd Track Event at Mazda/Laguna Seca Raceway. I apologize for the late delivery, but we've been working on last minute details to complete the roster and format. Not all of you are planned to attend both days, but many are. This message is intended to cover details for both days.
The event is just a couple of days away, and this will be the final communication before the event. Within this message you should have all the information you need to particpate in this event.(Hotels and camping, track map, event schedule, track services, etc.)
Weather:
Prepare for the worst - hope for the best! Come prepared with shelter if you can, and make sure your wiper blades are new. Treaded tires would also be good! :)

Running in the rain is actually pretty fun and does test your driving skills. Smoothness is VERY important when driving in the rain, so let's look at this as an opportunity to hone more of our skills - not lower lap times!
Convertibles will be allowed to run with tops up, and depending on how much precipitation we see, we will also allow drivers to run with windows up or down.
Social on Wednesday Night, and Dinner on Thursday day Night!!
On Wednesday night - The S2KCA (S2000) club and all other drivers are welcome to attend a social at the Blue Fin on Cannery Row. Start time will be betweem 7pm and 7:30pm. This is a very casual social event w/o any formal schedule or dining plans.
On Thursday night - One of our drivers owns an Italian Restaurant in Pacific Grove - Joe Rombi's. On Thursday evening between 7:00 and 7:30pm a group of us plan to have dinner at his place. We have the upstairs private dining room booked and it holds about 24, an the adjacent bldg. can support 30+. The cost is $25 each and you can expect to be 'over filled' with an excellent multi course Italian meal. TMR will cover the tips for the night, so it's only $25 for each of you. A group of us dined there in September and again in November, and the food was superb! If you would like to attend, RSVP by using 'Reply to All' so we have an accurate count of attendees, and so Joe Rombi himself can see the list. Your other option is to call Joe at 831-373-8116. jrombi@aol.com
The address is:
208 17th Street

Technical Inspection:
Step 1 - A 'self' technical inspection which should be completed prior to the event. Here's a high level list to help with this process:
http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/html/techform.html
Step 2 -Print out the Summary Inspection Form from the link below. Fill it out before the event, and be prepared to turn it in when you register at the track in the morning. PLEASE make sure you do this! If you don't, this can cause delays with the registration process in the morning. It can be found here: http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/html/techsummary.html
Step 3 - Time permitting, there may be a quick visual by our staff just before your 1st run group of the day. All technical inspections will take place in an area designated at the drivers meeting.
Sound:
This is a 92db day for all vehicles. The track uses a '3-Strike' process to get you off the track if you're too loud. Scroll to the bottom of the event page for more on sound.
Waivers:
We will have a waiver for each of you to sign when you register at the track in the morning. Any guests that plan to ride in your vehicle must also sign the waiver and have a colored wrist band.
Safety Equipment:
This is pretty much covered within the Tech Inspection Form, but it's important to restate that your vehicle must be equipped with factory or suitable aftermarket performance seatbelts, and you must have a helmet that meets the Snell SA95, M95, K98, SA2000, SA2005 M2000, or better standards. Your rating should be present on a sticker on the back of your helmet. TrackMasters Racing will have a Long Acre Hot Lap transmitter positioned near the start finish line for those of you with transponders in your car. It will be positioned on the drivers right side of the track.(passenger side)

Be sure to bring plenty of fluids and warm clothing. It will be cool in the morning and damp. EZ-Up type shades are also very nice to have if you have the space to haul them to the track with you.

Painters Tape for your headlights, fog lamps, and car numbers
Tire pressure guage
Compressed air tank (T-Hill does have air)
Chair
Cooler and drinks (thermos in this case!)

Vehicle Numbers:
If you do not have a number on your car, then plan on using your member number at this event. We will have some tape but it's always a good idea to bring your own Blue Painters Tape.

As a newer member, it was a real pleasure meeting all of you nice folks! It was a little scarey for a first timer with that wet track, but fun none-the-less. Thanks to all the members who actually put in the time to make it all happen. Almost as fun as meeting all the people was to get to see your cars and what you had done with them. See you at some future S2KCA events.

Right on, Brian. It was good to meet you too.
The event was quite well attended, and the dinner afterwards at Joe Rombi's was fun too. Sorry that Michael hurt his car, but it was a big relief that he was not injured.
Hopefully everyone learned something about smooth steering input, shifting, and pedal pressure during the wet morning sessions. I felt it helped me a good deal because in the afternoon's dry conditions I laid down better times than I thought I would on stock S-02's (best was a 1:53.69). An improved (more gentle) transition from brake to gas was mostly responsible, and that may not have been the case without the early wet stuff. :)

Good time, nice people.
I posted some photos that I took. Couldn't find an 06 Laguna Seca photo folder so they are located in the "Home> Main> Events> Laguna Seca Raceway" folder.
