View Full Version : Parking Lights Question

I have a 2004 AP2, and the small orange light in the headlight cluster on both sides sporadically comes on and off. As strange as this sounds when I tap above the light cluster the light comes on (with the light switch on of course). Could this be a bad bulb or connection? Perhaps its a relay issue? Both sides are having this issue, and it is with that particular bulb only.
It seems like the bulb is working fine, but only comes on after tapping above the light or after driving around a few minutes. I've circled the light in question below.

When you turn your headlight switch to the first position, this should activate your "parking" lights. These are the ones you've got circled in your picture and are 5W bulbs (the turn signals are 21W bulbs). When you activate the first position, the rear "parking" lights should also come on. Do they? If they do, then the relay should be fine as it's the same one for both front and rear.
It may be purely coincidental that both your front park light bulbs may be bad. You might want to buy 2 new ones and give them a try. They shouldn't cost much and you can access them through the hole in the fender on each side under the hood (lift up the coolant reservoir on that side). You'll have to work by feel. If you need to see the rear of the light socket, then you'll have to turn your wheel to one side and remove the splash shield fasteners and pull back the splash shield. Do it when the shield is warm so it bends better.
Once you have access, to eliminate the bulbs as the problem, carefully wiggle the wires going to those bulbs. Mind you, once you get that far, it's just as easy to change the bulbs to new ones.

I installed the bulbs with LED's when I replaced mine. Hopefully I won't need to pull the fender off again for a while now. (also changed the turn signal bulbs to LED's at the same time too)

Don't know if this is your problem but I know one of the clips on my car broke and the lift now shakes in and out of the socket... And FYI you can get to this light sockets by pulling back the fender liner much easier than taking the bumper / fender off

There is no need to even think about pulling off the bumper or fender. Worst case scenario is to pull back the plastic wheel well splash shield. Best is to work by feel through the engine bay fender holes.

I'm having the same problem, and was wondering if the bulb was the issue or just loose wires or something else? I want to know before i go into my freezing garage to fix this annoying little issue
