View Full Version : A couple of misc 'issues'

Same 07 with 20K :p

1. The throttle pedal has about 1/2 to 1 inch of wiggle room when it's fully up. When I press the pedal, the 1st inch is very soft, offers no resistance at all (I can do it with my pinky) and doesn't result in any throttle. After that inch is done, it's a regular throttle feel. Is it the same for you guys ?

2. Now I find this one being the weirdest of all. When I close my trunk, 2 to 3 seconds after the trunk is closed, there is a loud clunk that follows, I have no idea where it comes from, and it doesn't always happen.

Those are the last 2 things I see might be a problem. I hope that will be it for the lifetime of the car (wishful thinking I know)

Less than a 1/4" play on my MY07.

Do you have a trunk spoiler by any chance? Sounds like the springs somehow.

Nop, no spoiler...

Dont the MY07 have the DBW system? If so is there a way to adjust that? I am sure Dave can chime in on that.

Have you checked to make sure that everyting in the trunk is stowed. The spare tire etc.

I know I'm missing the clips for the panel that covers the spare tire, but it's very unlikely that's the sound. I shook that panel in every way possible.

The tire looks tightly secured. I'm thinking of completely removing it and see if I still get it, but by the nature of the clunk, I doubt it's the tire...

I have an 01 and it makes that cluck every time I close the trunk. I would say its more than 2-3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds after closing the trunk. Its not real loud but its loud enough that I can hear it even with the radio on.

When I close my trunk, 2 to 3 seconds after the trunk is closed, there is a loud clunk that follows,It sounds like the trunk assist springs are binding somehow. Open the trunk and put a bit of silicone grease on the ends of the springs where they enter the retainers. That may solve your strange trunk noise....or just curl up into a little ball in the trunk with a flashlight and have someone close the trunk (watch your head)...maybe you will see what's making the noise :D.

I think you've hit it right on the head. When the trunk opens, the two springs "relax" a little bit and some can shift slightly. After you close the trunk, the spring anchors snap back in place. That's the clunk you hear. I would use white lithium grease as this is a high friction point. Locate where the spring anchor on each side of the trunk and trunk lid. Give those 4 spots a blast of WL grease and move the trunk up and down a few times to work the grease in.
As for the gas pedal free play, it is DBW, so I'll let those who have these cars comment on that.

I checked the spare tire, it seems to be tightly in place... So I guess that leave the springs. Thanks for the answers everyone !

I'm sure you could remove a little free play from the throttle linkage without compromising DBW stuff.
