Hi,
Hope you can give me your opinion regarding the following. My 05 has just over 20,000 miles. I have used Mobil 1 since 9000 miles with good results. Had my oil changed at the dealer today and they put Honda 10w-30 old style in by accident. The service writer is a great person who got me a new top and has always given us a rental any time I had a repair even though I was not entitled. That is why I use them for the oil changes in hopes of maintaining a good relationship in case of future questionable warranty issues. He did not notice the error but I checked the part number since the price semed too low. Sorry for rambling but I want to know if this could cause any abnormal wear or other issues. The temp here in Phoenix is cooler for the next 6 months (35f/85f) unlike the severe half of the year. Thanks for your thoughts.

I am sure there will be many opinions on this but I would say you should be fine. Did they use the correct oil filter(15400-PCX-004)? After years of threads on oil and thousands of posts if you check the oil regularly you should be fine until the next change. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your dealership, don't worry.

Just my .02

I agree. You do not have a problem.

Have no fear. Honda 10W30 is "dino" oil and is just fine. Don't worry about the old wives tales about switching from synthetic to non-synthetic, non-synthetic to synthetic. The only reason you wouldn't go from non-syn to syn is if you have an older car with oil leaks. Synthetic tends to find its way out existing leaks even better.
Your "winter" temps is not what I consider cold. We have had S2000s around here running year round with dino oil down to temps of -38C. True, synthetic promotes easily cold cranking but like I said, you aren't operating in what I consider "cold".
As far as change interval, dino oil has plenty of service life for the interval in which you would change it.
It should also be mentioned that some S2000 owner's have posted that they burn more oil if they use Mobil 1, but these are primarily AP1 owners. Since AP2s really don't consume much oil anyway, this is not an issue.
Drive with joy. Your oil is not a problem.

Kevin, is the -004 the fat filter? I know there is a skinny and a fat and the numbers are, supposedly, -004 and -040. The S is supposed to use the fat one and other Hondas the skinny one.

Thanks for all of the help. I feel much better knowing this is not an issue. The part # for the filter and washer are correct. Yes I do have a great service writer and dealership. The writer drives a blown Toyota pick up and relates to the S much better than the typical person.

I am not sure if the of the differences, but I am sure that the filter for the S is 15400-PCX-004.
We just had a local member go through this with his dealership and they put the wrong filter on his car and he made them go back and double check and this part number is the filter for the S.

The original filter designated for the S2000 was the PLM filter. Honda soon changed it to the PCX filter. There has been no documented cases of S2000 engine failures due to the use of the "original" filters. The PCX merely gave a bigger safety margin. Nothing wrong with using what Honda now recommends but I also don't think we need to get too anal about it. My S2000 hasn't seen a Honda oil filter since year 1. It's on year 10 now and I've had oil analysis done along the way. Nothing alarming to report.

I've used Purolator and Purolator Pure ONE. Mostly the Pure ONE now. I've tried Mobil 1 filters but they're not easy to find. Also tried K&N, but also not handy to get. I think Pure ONE may be the best of them all from the tests I've seen on the net and the shop is just down the street from me.
Of course, nothing wrong with OEM. I'm not slamming them at all. Just not that convenient for me to get. Short of perhaps Fram and a couple of no name brands, they are all excellent for the drain intervals we are compelled to do "by the book".
