I noticed this inexpensive plate on the Coast Metals site (http://grill-accessories.com/hondas2000enginebayaccessory-1.aspx). It looks good, and they say it improves air flow. Anyone have experience with this?

I don't have this product, but I've also had the "splitter" from them in the past. The quality is good. However, I think this plate is purely cosmetic. Afterall, the stock slanted airguide does a pretty good job of keeping most of the air going into the rad. This item does clean up the front of the engine bay. Looks good.

I bought one of those to use as a pattern. I still have it. It was taken out of the plastic bag to trace around and then put back in the bag. It must be a good fit because the part I made fit fine. I will sell this one to you if you want one.

Wish I'd procrastinated. I ordered the item this morning. What did you make for your car?

I have had great success with products from them. I have not purchased this product though.

I was able to get ahold of a piece of stainless that was the firewall on an old Hot Rod. This was all done by hand on a drill press back in the 50's. The car was being restored and they threw this out. I have been cutting "dress up" parts for my engine bay out of it.

I have the same Coastal Metal piece, to aid the K&N fipk. For maximum benefit, I cut the factory air deflector to get more fresh air to the intake.. otherwise it's all forced through the radiator. All this really helped with bogging during the summer

The FIPK is supposed to draw its air through that access hole in the side of the engine bay, bypassing the heated air coming over the radiator. That slanted airguide is supposed to direct air through the radiator. The more air that goes through the rad, the better. It helps the rad cool the engine better. Cutting bigger holes in the airguide defeats this purpose.
This is one of the deficiencies in the Honda design. They had to cut those slots out in the airguide to feed the airbox. My air temp tests from way back in 2001 and 2002 showed that this was the worst way to get air into the stock airbox. The K&N FIPK and the Comptech intakes eliminated this. You don't want any air coming over the radiator at all if you can help it. With these sorts of intakes, you want to block as much air as you can. It would be far better to tape up the slots in the stock slanted airguide and to tape up the holes in the Coastal Metal piece if you are using the Comptech or FIPK.
In fact, some years ago, back in my S2Ki days, an S2000 owner invented a side entry channel for the stock airbox to eliminate ALL air entry from the over the rad. Due to the cost of manufacturing and lack of understanding of the S2000 ownership for the benefits of this mod, he never put them out for sale. He offered to send me his prototype but I already had the AEM at the time. I wish I took it. This mod, combined with plugging up the stock airguide (or "cooling" plates like the Coastal Metal one), K&N filter insert and replacing the stock rubber "corrugated" intake tube with a smooth bore pipe, would have made for the perfect performance COLD air intake for this car without any fear of water ingestion.
