View Full Version : Clutch pedal adjustment question

I'm lazy today and thought I'd just ask the question rather than doing my own research like I should. No doubt there's an adjustment on where the clutch pedal engages but that's not my question. My question is can the clutch position within the car itself be raised? By that I mean can it be positioned so it is physically higher off the floor? I have always felt it was too low but never looked into doing anything about it. Today it dawned on me there might be a fix.

Umm I don't think you can but I'm not sure. I think that it is only for cable tranny that you can adjust

There is no adjustment (at least not officially) for height on the clutch pedal. The height from the pedal footpad surface to the floor is supposed to be 189 mm. The bracket that the clutch/starter interlock switch and cruise control defeat switch are mounted on also determines the clutch pedal height. If you feel you must alter the height, you can look at somehow bending that bracket so the whole assembly, along with both switches get moved further away from the floor. However, I must warn you that attempting this may be dangerous in that you might crack the bracket.

Umm, is this for the height of the pedal sitting when your foot is off? I think he wants to know if you can change the engagement point

That's not what get from this statement:

As for the actual engagement point, yes, there is an adjustment (officially).

I didn't get that from his post either.

A side thought. If you do manage to bend the bracket up and move the pedal further off the floor, there is a downside to this. The master cylinder plunger may be working in a range that is beyond it's normal tolerances. IE, the starting point will be closer to the firewall and there may not be sufficient allowable travel there. If you adjust the pedal rod and put the starting point back to where it was before, now you have a situation where the end point of the plunger will be further forward than before and this too, may be beyond its normal working range. You may be opening up a big can of worms.
If you truly prefer to have a higher pedal position, the only safe way to do it without risking taking the plunger out of its working range, is to install something on top of the pedal pad to make it thicker - kinda like pedal blocks for a kid's bike. Glue a second pedal pad on top of the existing one.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. I figured it was probably a fixed setup up but then I got to hoping that maybe there was a workaround that someone knew of. I would like it positioned so the contact point was in my toes rather than below the ball of my foot. In the past I've looked for something on the order of pedal blocks with no success. I recently heard that Bulletproof Automotive sold a product made by Backyard Special in Japan that was a pedal extension for $330. :yikes: However, I saw nothing about it on their website. And I'm not interested in having the pedal closer to me; just higher up. I've seen some offset pedals for heel & toe but that's not what I'm looking for either. Back to the drawing boards. Thanks again.

I think your best bet would be to invent something yourself. If it were me, I would analyze how the pedal pad is attached and try to remove it from the pedal lever. Then figure out a way to make a new bracket that would put the placement of the pad where you want it. It may involve some welding and to be perfectly safe, it will have to be well executed. Getting the pedal out of the car can be done but due to the tight quarters, this may be a job for a contortionist. You might be able to just remove the pad to see what's under there. Many Civic and Acura models have interchangable pedal pads. A new pad (or existing pad) could be modified for a different attachment. Just don't know about the S2000. It would be a real bummer if the pedal pad fell off or shifted on you one day at a critical moment.

The brake pedal hight can be adusted, btw.
Not that this info will help you.
Make sure, whatever you do, that you're not riding the clutch!
In a way that the pedal itself is doing it, I mean.
