I'm installing a new short block and noticed a difference in the oil pressure sending unit threads on the new block versus the old block.

On the old block I can hand tighten the unit about 3/4 of the thread length into the block. On the new block I can only hand tighten it about 1/3 of the way.

Unfortunately there are no torque specs in the Helms manual. I ended up oiling the threads and tightening it as far as I felt comfortable. I will keep my eye on this to make sure it does not leak.

I would think that the thread is the same but the casting of the block may be slightly different in the amount of lip around the hole. If I'm not mistaken, the sending unit has a bit of a tapered thread to it, as does many other typed of aftermarket sending units. It should self seal as it gets tighter, but a bit of teflon thread compound (not the tape) would help with the seal. Even the tape would be OK if you keep it well away from the end that goes into the block.
