Hi all,
Yesterday the car was parked outside in the rain for a while.
When I drove home I heared water sloshing around behind me.
Every time I braked it sloshed forwards.
It sounded very close.
There was no water inside the cabin.
I've looked in the service manual and found there are 2 water tanks underneath where the soft top main hinges are, one with a drain to the outside and a valve.
Are those tanks and is that drain easy to find?
Also, after 20 minutes of driving (at home) I could not hear the water anymore so somehow it did drain.
Maybe its normal?
Does it only drain while driving?
Is that why that valve is there?
About 3 weeks ago I noticed the same after finally washing the car.
(maybe I should wash the car more often)

The water is in your trunk. It can come from a variety of places. The tail lights, if the gaskets were not clean when they were installed or if they have become loose. The truck lid gasket, it needs to be kept lubricated. I prefer a vacuum grease, Krytox which has a vapor pressure of 10 to the minus 14 so it never evaporates. But you can use any silicon based grease. The vent which is located just above the left corner of the license plate. In my original trunk I put a a baffle constructed of a suitable sided plastic bottle and stuck it to the top of the vent with duck tape to act as a hinge. You will loose a bit of skin during this operation unless you have very skinny arms arms with extra joints, but it worth it if this is found to be your leak. Also if your top has been replaced, the drain tubes may have not been reconnected. This will necessitate removing the top to repair. The best diagnostic tool I have used is: Remove all interior trunk panels, dry the trunk, get a a water soluble marker and draw rings inside the trunk. Then next time it gets wet see which rings are broken. This should lead you to the source.

You may want to remove the trunk liner to see if the water made its way to the bottom of the trunk. That's usually what can happen. Yes, there are drain channels that evacuate water that goes down into the space at the bottom rear of the soft top. These channels end up in things that are like "catch basins". From these, there are drain hoses that take the water down and out the bottom of the car. If the drain holes get blocked or if they have come detached, then the water goes into your trunk. That's most likely where you heard it sloshing around.
There was another person who posted the same issue about a month ago. Take a look. You might find some useful info here:

Thanks all for the replies.

The sloshing sound is like this: driving slow and then brake to a stop => I hear water moving forwards for about a second or so.
At first I thought it was in the chassis.
Water in the trunk... :yikes:
The car is parked indoors at home, at work its parked outside.
The forecast is rain so I'll be checking the trunk pretty soon :(
Yeah.. I know.. I could park the car outside and test with a bucket.. but I just don't feel like it today.

It certainly isn't dry in the trunk.
Damp.
I've never removed the tail lights, trunk seal looks ok but could do with some silicone.
To be continued........

Check the inside of the trunk liner for staining.

Remember kids, You gotta keep those rubber seals lubricated, they tend to shrink and wither over the years, just like us.

Kids??!! I haven't been called a kid for a hundred years (or so it seems). :p
I've been preaching the care and feeding of the seals for years ......................

However, in Spitfire's case, I think the water is coming in via the soft top rain channels.

I think that you are correct about the rain channels Repiv.
