I'm looking to set up a Yellowstone/Grand Tetons trip for next summer. This will be a one week trip visiting Yellowstone mostly, however, there will be a one day trip see the Grand Tetons as well. Looking at the first two weeks in August next year. I'm just seeing how much interest there would be.
Basic itinerary: Sunday-stay in Mammoth Inn with early afternoon meet-up and tour that area. ($89.55-137.17)
Monday-visit East side, Dunraven Pass, Mud Volcano, Canyon and stay in Grant Village.($159.35 or 166.46)
Tuesday-Sightseeing trip to Grand Tetons and stay at Old Faithful Inn.($108.04-264.58)
Wednesday-visit Old Faithful area, Black Sand Basin, Biscuit Basin, Midway Basin. Stay at Old Faithful Inn again.
Thursday-Firehold Lake Drive, Fountain Paint Pots exit to West Yellowstone. Visit W. Yellowstone and stay in town. (No specific hotel yet.)
Friday-visit Norris Geyser Basin, Obsidian cliff and west side of park. Stay in Gardiner. (No specific hotel yet.)
Saturday-depart for home.

This is the basic plan and subject to change if necessary. This will be a tourist trip, so don't expect much enthusiastic driving. Too many tourists on the road and too slow a speed limit anyway. Not to mention those wild animals that tend to visit the roads.
If you would be interested in attending, speak up here. Expected expense will be around $125/night for Sunday through Friday for rooms. Dining will be determined by where we are when we want to eat. I will probably have a 10 room limit.

Since this is so far in the future and is limited to 10 rooms, those who express interest will get first more detailed info when rooms become available. And first shot at the rooms. Once there are ten, I'll start a "Standby List" in case someone cancels out later.

Interested list:
1. SVPapillon
2. GLTYFUN
3. repiv
4. Wanderer
5. My_yella_s2k
6. Alexei
7. dansadict
8. DjsS2K
9. MickeyS2000

There could be some interest here. We look forward to discussing further in San Ramon.

I'll add you to my "interested" list. Since there are only 10 rooms, those who are interested first get first crack at the rooms when they become available.

Is this open to folks from Canada? I live in British Columbia, and I'd drive down to meet up with the group and make a 2-week vacation of it. Please let me know.

Just to let you know, last month, I went on the Olympic Peninsula drive with the Washington group. I'm a "Calgary" Cannuck. Mangonel executes one of the best meets and drives that I have ever been on and I've been on many.

Excellent, thanks. I better put my name down then!

Okay folks, here's the present story. The announcement of the next S2KDays creates a problem with my Yellowstone tour. S2KDays moved forward to 5-8 August, which conflicts with the Yellowstone tour dates of 7-15 August. We're trying to re-arrange things, but not sure what will happen. I'll keep everyone informed on our progress.

As of 2 October, this trip will go as planned. Cannot change our reservations now, too late to get reasonable rooms in July/September. So I can't really change the dates.

Planning is pretty much done. We can start making reservations soon. Here is the plan:
Saturday-travel to Missoula, MT.
Sunday-stay at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel inside the park
Monday-Stay at Grant Village
Tuesday-tour Grand Tetons, stay at Old Faithful Inn
Wednesday-another night at Old Faithful Inn
Thurdsay-stay at Canyon Village Lodge and Cabins
Friday-stay outside the park in Gardiner at the Athabasca Lodge
Saturday-head for home
Should be a great time and long enough to get a good idea of what the park has to offer.

Presently reserved:
1. the mangonel +1
2. GLTYFUN
3. MickeyS2000 (our first Canadian on the tour)
4. repiv (our second Canadian!)

Reservations will be open starting 16 November. Reservations for Yellowstone can be made by calling 307-344-5437. Tell them you are with the S2000 Club. They will make your reservations for Sunday 8 August through Thursday 12 August. For Friday you must call the Absaroka Lodge in Gardiner at 800-755-7414 and tell them you are with the S2000 Club. Rooms at the Absaroka are $117.70 (after tax.)
There are various room types available at each location within the park. I have information on room types and prices available in PDF format. If you send me an e-mail address, I can send them to you. Otherwise, you can ask when you call.
Reservations will remain open until all 10 rooms are filled. The Absaroka Lodge will hold our rooms until 1 January. Yellowstone will hold them until 7 May 2010.

Closed this thread to leave the other one open. No sense having two on the same topic!
