I am looking at flying in for the event. I called the hotel to determine what the best airport to fly into would be best. The hotel staff recommended Oakland. Post up here if you plan to fly in. Maybe we can get some groups to meet at the airport to share on the cab or rental car to the hotel.
I also found this information on their web site.

Yes, that is in my post above. Looks like it is $33 from Oakland. The price is unknown from San Jose. Reservations are required for the service.
When are you coming in and what airport will you fly to?

True, but then again I;d make sure that the shuttle is really running when you need it. if Bruce needs to leave the hotel at 5am because he has to catch an early flight to get abck to work in time, and there is no shuttle, he might have no other choice than to rent a car.
Unless you want to take him to the airport. :)

American just announced a fare sale. I could fly from DFW to San Jose (Thurs - Mon) for $270 included fees and tax. Hmmmmm...there may be some other good deals out there if you were thinking of coming by plane. :flight:

San Jose is more direct to the hotel as far as driving goes.

I can only get a direct flight if I go to San Jose. I am looking to get my ticket this weekend. I will post my flight details in this thread. Maybe I can meet up with some other flyers and share a ride to the hotel.

I think flights from Houston (Continental) would arrive around 5pm in San Jose...

Arriving San Jose at 4:35pm on Thursday, leavng on Sunday at 9:10am.
Anybody else getting in around the same time who wants to share a taxi? Anybody local who wants to pick me up? ;)
Edit: Cheap rental car for three days costs $167. If I split that with another person, it's the same as the shuttle, only more convenient (plus we're mobile while at the hotel). Splitting it with a third person woul ddefinitely make everyone come out ahead...

Wow! I'm impressed with the amount of interest in getting to S2KDays even without your car. We are looking forward to driving by way of Washington and Oregon to add two more notches on our "States Visited" map

Hey Ulrich, It is wonderful to see the you will be joining us. It has been too long since we have seen you. Less than a month until we all get to renew our friendships in person.

Now let's hope I'm allowed in at the hotel. Hmmmm.

Just booked a car -- Alamo at the San Jose airport, pre-paid for three days $85. Cheaper than a taxi and just about break-even for the shuttle. But a lot more convenient... :)

While I understand having the rental car for the weekend will be a lot more convenient than the alternatives, there is nothing convenient about getting and returning a rental car at SJC. It was convenient in the late 80's when your rental car was about 50 feet from the door, but they have been moving rental lots farther and farther away since then (as, I realize, just about every major airport has). Now you get to take what feels like a three mile bus ride to go about a quarter of a mile if you could walk it, which you can't. And don't worry if you get lost trying to drive out of the airport (after you have hopefully avoided sideswiping the cars they park along the sides of the narrow exit road), you'll get another chance to make the correct turn in about 10 minutes. There's no point in trying to memorize how to drive that airport because the roads will be reconfigured again soon anyway. Enjoy!
(SJC is generally a pretty good airport and I do fly through there even when I do need a rental car. If you're in the AA/SWA terminal, check out the very cool kinetic art piece.)
