Was looking on the Google maps for nice drives in the area and came up with this:
FUN DRIVE MAP (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=2600+Bishop+Drive,+San+Ramon,+CA+94583+(San+ Ramon+Marriott)&daddr=Calaveras+Rd+to:Sierra+Rd+to:CA-130%2FSan+Antonio+Rd+to:37.465594,-121.190186+to:Mines+Rd+to:1st+St&hl=en&geocode=%3BFdyZPAIdtLm8-A%3BFVTfOgIdgi-9-A%3BFT_SOQIdiaHB-A%3B%3BFXKaOwIdQMrB-A%3BFdCjPgIdeFq8-A&gl=us&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=4&sz=11&via=1,2,3,4,5&sll=37.454148,-121.432571&sspn=0.383194,0.617294&ie=UTF8&ll=37.540222,-121.631012&spn=0.765501,1.234589&z=10)
Can be one of the group drives?
Can't wait - SF area has plenty of nice roads around! Too bad we not gonna have my S...
Another fun drive:

Here's a topic on which I can have an opinion, having spent five months working in the Bay Area and numerous visits there.
On a day with a forecast for clear skies, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and stop at the park on the Marin County side. Then drive to the top of Mt. Tamalpais which has twisties and breathtaking views of the entire bay. You can add in Pt. Reyes and Muir Woods if you have time.
On an a clear evening, drive along Grizzly Peak Blvd through Berkeley to Oakland for a spectacular view of the bay towards SF at night. It is twisty, but it's also a long way down.

Aleksey...you should check with the planning committee...I've got an idea that they already have drives planned
If you want though, you could pass your ideas on to LouieV or Bimdub...:yep:
Thanks for your involvement :D

I understand they have some drives worked out, but I would still forward your suggestions to Lou as he is local and would be better to evaluate them.....

Hopefully y'all have something planned for the Santa Cruz mountains - Skyline Dr., CA 9, King's Mountain Rd., etc. - just encourage everyone to behave themselves, b/c it's a loooonnnng way down if you go off on some of those roads!

35 is Skyline Dr.
CA 9 intersects Skyline a bit further South, and is one of the best (and most scenic) roads I've ever driven.
Kings Mountain also intersects Skyline and goes to Portola Rd. - I was actually nervous about driving this one very fast, but it was very scenic and enjoyable!
Skyline pretty much runs N-S along the ridge of the mountains, which separate the Pacific Ocean from Silicon Valley.
I'd also include a stretch along the PCH in that area as well to make a loop. You really can't go wrong w/ the roads in that area - little traffic, stunning scenery, and lots of curves and elevation change!
Alice's Restaurant is a great place to stop for a meal, and it's a popular hangout for cool bikes and sportscars.

Yeh back in the day's when I had my Ducati they used helicopter one or two people off the mountain each weekend ( 92 to Skyline(35) to 9 to Los gatos) Of course some of my friends were traveling over 120 mph on the sweepers on Skyline. Eventually the police used to have parades to slow things down. The mountaintop views are spectacular.

I was just there a few weeks ago, and I already want to go back!
Oh yeah, don't miss the roads around Muir Woods - follow the signs to get there, and when you leave, keep going in the same direction (not backtracking). It'll take you to some more amazing scenery/roads!

I used to go there at least 3 times a week and one guy ran race slicks on his GSXR1100. Never got my knee pads on the ground anywhere else. I love that road

Take a look at Mt. Hamilton Rd and Ca 130 going up to the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton. There are 3 main peaks in the SF Bay area: Mt. Diablo and Mt. Hamilton are not too far from Pleasanton and Mt. Tam. is over in Marin county. Drives up to any of these will yield great views (on clear days).

Once you get to Saratoga park you take 9 to Los Gatos. 9 is another great road with several decreasing radius turns. Go in hot and you could be destined for a head on collision. One in Los Gatos there is food and drink, art and music. And then back up the way you came.
