i got lucky and won a cover that is custom made but no install instructions came with it.

Lee, I can't remember what year your car is, but on an AP1, the elbow pad is integrated with the complete assembly that includes the shift boot, the cup holder and coin holder. In this case, the whole thing is held down with pressure clips. Begin at the rear corners and lift the panel up to pop each clip and continue along the each side till the whole thing is loose. How to replace the cover is unknown to me.
In the AP2, the elbow cover appears to be able to be separated from the rest. I'm not sure exactly how it's done since I don't have an AP2. However go to this site and punch in the year of your car, then go to the "interior" section and then to the console of the year of your car. When the page opens, click on "view these parts" to see a diagram. Hopefully, this diagram will give you some clue as to how the thing comes apart. Also take a look at the underside of your new piece. It may give you some clues also.

Lee,
I had to repair the leather pad on my AP1 console last year. The leather pad is mounted to a seperate plastic base that is riveted to the rest of the console. I drilled out the rivets carefully. (A drill bit will wander easily in plastic.)
After repairing the leather pad I simply snapped the parts together, without bothering to replace the rivets. I have had no issues with the pad since. I thought I would use some plastic weld to attach the pad section to the rest of the console but in the end it wasn't necessary.

I was able to heat the clips with a soldering iron coors lite is talking about enough to slip them out of their sockets . Then after I put the new cover over it (held on with glue and clamped overnite) I just put the clips back in thier original hole and melted them back in position.

Thanks a lot for all the input guys.
I was able to remove the console and pad. I installed the new pad cover but it didn't line u right(my fault).
The guys at JPM Coachworks, where I got it, are offering to fix it for no cost to me. How's that for customer service? I like these guys.
After I get it back, I'll post some pics. It's black leather sides with a blue center that matches the interior.
