xviper gave me an overview of the rear main seal replacement but I needed a little more detailed information on this. If Xviper or someone else who has changed the seal could give me some addtional information on tools to use and steps to do it etc. etc. that would be great.

I hope I don't get connected with someone overseas with a strong accent that could care less if they fix my problem or not.

Actually, I am overseas right now ...................... sort of. I'm on vacation in Maui. I don't have my service manual handy, so I can't give you the number of the seal tool or the number for the clearance of the seal to the face of the crankshaft end.

like I said before, the old seal has to be worked out without damaging the surrounding metal housing. The seal housing has to be completely wipe dry of all old oil. The special tool is needed to evenly pound the new seal into the housing squarely. Then you must measure the clearance. This is to guarantee that the seal is totally seated.
Perhaps someone else can look it up in the service manual for those numbers.

Is the rear main seal the transmission end crankshaft oil seal?

If so the manual information:
special tools: driver 07749-0010000
driver attachment 07948-SB00101

Oil seal installed height: (distance between the crankshaft and oil seal) 5.5-6.5 mm (.22-.26 in.)

Now I know nothing about how it all goes together, but I can read numbers. Take Care
