The good about SF is that you can rent pretty much any car you could possibly imagine...:D Haven't found the place with S2000 though yet.. We might need like several of them! Actually Miata would do it too..

I'm hoping to make this one. As I said in another thread, my wife's family is in San Diego so I can fly her out with our 10 month old son and take our six-year old daughter with me in the car. They'll spend time with the family and I'll go to SF and hang out with car people. :D

Not just pricey, but can you imagine trying to keep everyone together on drives heading out of SF? I think the Bay Area is a great place for S2KDays, but not in SF. I'll try to make it regardless!

Dunno yet..................

most likely I wont...
Actually, the Board decided on this, not just me....
Thanks to Lou for putting together the proposal!!
Obviously, the details of the event all need to be worked out - so watch for them as they come out.
I hope we have a huge turnout for the event - so many great things to do in the area, etc.
I do need a small bit of time to recover from S2KDays '08 before I start thinking about '09.....:D:D
Cammie & I want to go, but I need dates (if you have them), I start bidding my leave for 09 this week
Ok then I will take some leave in Sept and hope it works out with the dates picked. Cammie really wants to go and visit friends, so she just may have to go out early and me just for the weekend.

Chris is right - the logistics of parking, etc in the City would not be easy to say the least :yikes: We'll most likely be based in the east bay at the San Ramon Marriott. A relatively short drive to all of the destinations, with one drive going through SF on the way to the GG Bridge.

You looked like you would need some recovery time when I saw you Sunday morning at 1 am
Who loves bus trips??? :D Was nice to meet you Brad :)
Yea - the problem with some bus trips is that you need to be careful - you can (and will) spill your wine......
I spent more time on buses this weekend than I did in S2000's.........

I'm with Coop. I have to block my vacation time by the end of the year.
If Brad is going to be the commentator on the bus trip I'm walking:poke: :rlaugh:
Yea - probably would be a good idea to post that up on YouTube - Anyone know how to do that???

Between those two - DEFINITELY the Elise... I've ridden in a Boxster at the track... big, heavy and not nearly as nimble and fun as the S!
A couple I know that track with me have both an Elise and an Exige -- I better be getting a ride in one of those next track day at Watkins Glen!!!
The woman passed me twice in 20 minutes at NH a couple months ago in the damn Exige! Like I was standing still on the front straight  Last time she only passed me once so I must be getting better

Actually the couple I know live in CT and goto 2 day events at the track all the time taking only one car.
It's a small trunk but you can fit a bit of luggage in there. I'll try to get pics of it in October -- or signup for the 27th and check it out yourself ;) :D

Unlike S2000's, which are all pretty similar minus the AP1/AP2 differences, Boxsters run the full gamut from a soft 986 w/ 2.7 engine and smaller wheels/tires to new 987S w/ PASM, 300+ hp, and 18/19" wheels.
My Cayman S is a bit bigger than an S2000, but only weighs 100 or 200 more lbs. and feels just as nimble aside from not having as quick a steering ratio (what does, other than perhaps the Evo?).
I love the Elise/Exige, but would be a bit nervous renting one that would leave my sight unless I had good rental coverage. The slightest incident can bust a clam, and then you're looking at an expensive replacement (at least several thousand $$$).
I came close to buying an Elise in '05, but backed off b/c of concerns of how fragile they are. I'd still love to have one, as they sure are fun. Just a bit concerned about repair cost and safety.

that could be true, but if you add getting in and out of the Elise, most others cars will have a major advantage
Also add in a 5MPH accident can total a elise, no thanks

I drove Cayman S - amazing car - I would say I liked it ~20% more than S2000! I liked it better than 911 base Carrera. I don't know how Boxster S compares to Cayman though.. I guess I need to test-drive on of those..

S2KDays was sneaky this year and I didn't realize that it was happening when it did. Had I been conscious, I would have made an effort to get up there for it. Next year, I will definitely go. I don't need too many reasons to go to the Bay Area, plus my brother lives there.
Looking forward to this... :)
My S1 Exige (non-Federal car) is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. All valid points about damage with the cars though.
Ellen - no guys allowed on the S2KCA GGW bus....except me......:D:D

Great news. We lived in the SF Bay area for many years and this will be fun. We should be able to get many of the Northwest chapter members to come down.
The East Bay can still get HOT in late September.
For those who are planning on renting a Solstice or Sky - they have almost no trunk.

that route is on Goolge, you could add more by moving over to HWY1 or even cutting up across AZ & NV (this might be faster, higher speed limits, less traffic)

NorCal - awesome. Will mark this one on the calendar. If you have time before (or if someone's planning a group drive) check out King's Mountain Rd. and Skyline (CA 35) that runs btwn 92 and 84. Spectacular views as a passenger and sick nasty fun as a driver.
As for the rent-a-racer aspect, great link. Might go Miata if I pack light or 325ic or Boxter as a decent cruiser (although the Cobra replica pulls at my heartstrings / Gumball Rally scenes). "Been there, sold that" WRT the Elise -- nice, but as Chris S says they are fragile and they will absolutely broil your luggage since the trunk is directly above the catalyst/muffler & poorly insulated. Do not parallel park one in The City.

I don't do short -haul flights (not enough frequent flyer miles)
So if this is the weekend of Sept 26&27, It looks like I will be driving to it. I am thinking a 2-3 drive there and then a nice tour coming home or the other way around, just have to see how it works out.

There's a thread in the San Fran forum that has more details.

Not that I've found. There is some additional information in this thread:

I agree that there should be one main thread where all the details are stated in the first post, but I believe those in charge are waiting till all the details are worked out before doing this. Once everything is in place and registration begins, I'm sure that thread will materialize.

I am hoping to sign up at the hotel sometime soon.
We're almost done with our high-level planning. Lou V and the crew on the ground are doing a GREAT job!
We'll be "open for business" very soon!!! :D:D
