I recently changed my exhaust to Mugen so now things are more noticeable, mainly during idling at redlights and whatnot.
Today on the way home from work, I was at a light and heard a trans noise that, well, I cant really describe... jeez, It doesn't sound like grinding.... but I guess more of a rattle from inside of the trans....
when I press the clutch pedal down, it either goes away completely or 90%, then when i put it in gear it goes away totally.
I guess it sounds like a trans on its way out with no fluid. I guess.....
Ijust did the trans fluid with honda type 2 last oil change... and I really dont know when it started as before the exhaust hid all noises.
Dave, it doesnt sound severe, and ill prob start with a trans svc again on monday at work. If it still continues, ill need to borrow your ear in a few weeks.

Sounds like the clutch throwout bearing may be going bad. We shall wait for Dave to chime in for the official word

Thats what I thought Tom... but like I said, all these stupid noises pop up now, b/c i can actually hear inside the cabin...
the squeaks and rattles are for a different rainy day

if the noise goes away towards the top of the clutch (ie....when you take up the slack) I would also lean towards the release bearing.....to be honest mine is noisy too.."whirring"..compared to many other cars I have driven.....almost like its "normal".....the worst I have ever heard was one that "shrieked" whenever you touched the clutch or let off of it.....

The whirring sound is normal.
Gut your interior and it gets even louder :)

Of course, I'd have to listen to it to say anything concrete. It could be the release bearing as everyone else has pointed out. It may very well be just normal noise. If you can do a comparison test with a relatively new S2000, this should confirm it for you.
The noise can also be from a couple of other sources. When you let the clutch pedal up during idling at a stop light, the transmission inner works are spinning. The sound you hear may simply be normal gear hum as all the shafts spin around and gear teeth meshing together. A friend here was quite alarmed at this when his S was very new and I told him it was just the tranny spinning around. He's got nearly 140K kms on it now and it still makes the same sound. If that's what it is, then no worries.
You used the term "rattling". Now, this would be more of a concern. It would be best to listen to it in a couple of weeks. This could be the clutch disc (as Jasonoff) is now fully aware, but his did it when the car was being motivated down the road. It could also be something loose inside the tranny itself.
Another thing - it could be the base of your shifter being vibrated and making the sound (rattle). You can easily test this by doing what you need to do to make the sound, then grabbing stick and holding it firm or even try pushing it straight down into the console. Since you have the clutch pedal up, you don't want to risk going into any gear.

Mike add a set of Mugen headers and you will add an assortment of new noises. When mine were installed I immediately checked the valve clearance. it was all in spec just more noticeable.

This is what a broken spring retainer looks like and it's not fun.

I have the shifter rattle as well. Push down on the shifter to apply pressure on the spring and see if the noise goes away. Generally the shifter rattle is on acceleration and deceleration at high rpm.

Mike, I think you know my solution to rattles and squeaks......ain't nothing 600 watts of the Beastie Boys can't cure....

Let me throw a wrench in the works. "Whirring" is normal, but if there's a hint of grinding while whirring, well ................................. :o

Dave... after driving home from Pittsburgh 3 years ago with no clutch my transmission grinds more often.
Is this an issue? :p
