you might have a sticky float in the fuel tank...

Ditto. Did you fuel up till the pump nozzle pop? If so, your fuel gauge may be inaccurate. Do you smell any gas, especially after you've driven it for while and open up the hood?
yea don't let it scare you, go off mileage. I once had a big spin at the track, and I had a half of tank at the start of the spin, by they time I stopped I had 1 bar and the gas light was on. Took about 20 min for it to show half tank agin :D

Mine acts up too from time to time. Today on my way to the store I was showing a half tank with 92 miles on the odometer. When I got out of the store, I had 3 bars over half.

but did you stop the pump or did it automatically stop?
if it automatically stopped and is still 1 bar shy of full, sounds like your float might be off.

I was at two bars last weekend and put in three gallons. The gauge didn't budge for a few minutes. the further I drove, the more gas that was accumulating in my tank according to the gauge. It just took awhile to read correctly.

could be worse.......anything less than half a tank in my BMW.....and a really hard right hand turn......you will do two things......1) stall the engine when all the fuel rushes to the "left" tank......and 2) push all the washer fluid up the hose and out of the nozzles......
