Hey guys,

Long time no post. I got honda to pay for 75% of a top replacement for my 04 recently and now its on to a new problem...

At low RPM (just after shifting) there is a rattling noise coming from the underside of the vehicle. Once the RPMs hit 3500 or 4000 its silent. Rip the pop-top off of a soda can, place it inside, and shake it around... that's what it sounds like.

I've heard this might be a loose catalytic converter heat shield. Any ideas?

Colin

Rattles on this car are hard to diagnose on the "net". Best thing to do is to jack it up, crawl under there and start slapping stuff with the palm of your hand. Begin with the exhaust system from front to back. This is what tends to have the most movement under the conditions you describe. When you can reproduce the rattle by doing this, you'll know what to do next.

Thanks for the help! Unfortunately my new apartment complex isn't too keen on maintenance in the parking lot so I'm just going to have the dealer take a look at it when it goes in for its 52k check-up.

Thanks again

As another member said, check the Cat heat shield. Some have fixed this just by taking it off completely (not recommeding this), filling the gap between the cat and the shield with silicone then re-tightening it.

Another think you might want to check is your exhaust as xviper said. My invidia was making a similar rattle and I found out that it was rattling off the rear lower tie bar (where bolt attaches on passenger side). The rattle would get progressively worse after a sprint on the hwy to heat it up. It was just under 2k rpm it did it just as I was letting the clutch pedle out after take off from a stop.

hope this helps
