I am having TPS issues with the S2000. This car does not get driven much (40 miles in the last 2 months, until today.)

I recently got a P0122 code, which is TPS sensor low (or something like that). I reset it, drove for a bit and it came up again. I then cleaned the connectors and reset it. I drove for ~80 miles, varying speed, A/C on/off, ran it up to redline, etc. No codes came back.

But I did notice that it would only get up to 88% at WOT. It did not matter what gear, rpm, A/C setting, it only reads 88%. If I manually work the throttle, I can get 89%.

So what do you think? Should I be getting to 99%?

FWIW, the TPS is calibrated to the TB at the factory and it is ~$450 to get a new one. And it has a Vortec supercharger, but I don't see how that would effect the TPS.

Your talking about what the ECU OBDII reader shows? 88-92% is the norm if I remeber right. Its ok thats perfectly normal. You may want to adjust your cable to make sure it pulls at max right before the pedal is on the floor.

As for the code, cleaning the plug, and making sure its very snug could be all that the problem is. Thats been known to happen with the MAP sensor. Make sure the wires are in good condition and go from there.

Yea....what he said.
And it'll make you have a little better throttle response too. I did that too mine and I did notice a dramatic difference.

6% and 90% are the approximate readings you should get for fully closed and fully open. So no, you won't ever see 99%.
The slack in the cable is about 1/4" deflection when ideal.

Not to hijack a subject but you're saying that there should be 1/4" deflection ( slack ) in the throttle cable at the TB connection and NOT snug ? There is a adjustment fitting just downline from where the cable attaches and use this to maintain the 1/4" freeplay ? Mine has the 1/4" you speak of. Later , Mark

Slack in a cable or even in a pulley belt is measured in the middle of the longest exposed portion. In this case, you grab the bare cable between the connection at the TB and where it goes into its sheath.

Thanks Dave. That's where I measured the cable play at . Mark

If the light stays off, I will quit worrying about it. Thanks for the input.
