As this is my first post on s2kca, id like to say hello to everyone, CG sent me :D and ill get right to it

I was driving on the interstate the other day, and as i shifted into fifth, it grinded...

Well, for a while there it wouldnt go into fifth. then, it would go in with alot of difficulty, and come out the same way.

i slowed off the interstate to see what the problem was, and as i would shift through fifth again and again it seemed like it was getting easier to do.

For some reason, now it goes into gear with ease, although the actual shift INTO fifth feels(for lack of a better word) grainy, or rough.

I hope, for my sake, that its nothing too serious...

5th is markedly more "distant" from its previous gear (4th) than any other gear from its previous gear. (Hope that made sense.) Therefore, it a greater defined motion to make it happen. From 4th, it is a distinct movement up (to center), then directly right (much more so than say, 2nd to 3rd), then straight up. The timing of this is just a bit different than any other shift and thus it is easier to be a bit "off" when coordinating it with your clutch and throttle.
To compound this, add in the possibility that your clutch fluid may be old and in need of changing. A clutch that may not be fully disengaging can make such a "long" shift more difficult. To test this, try to shift from 4th to 5th with the engine off, clutch on the floor. How does this compare to when you are moving? If it seems to go in without fanfare while the engine is off, it might point towards the clutch fluid being old and filled with water and/or air. If it seems just as difficult with the engine off, then it may indeed be a transmission issue.
Continue to take note of how it's going. Much of the diagnosis depends upon what you observe.

yeah when the car is off it goes in fine(still a bit scratchy but relatively smooth and easily) and once i start it and try it, its alot more difficult.

Will probably change that out tomorrow. will post results.

havent drained the clutch fluid yet (money issues)

But i did replace the transmission and diff. fluids.the transmission fluid was somewhat dirty, only a few specks of metal came with the fluid.

the diff. fluid looked just about like old motor oil, glad i switched it!

Thanks!!!
