Oddly, the past couple of weeks, I have been getting an increasing number of PMs asking for advice and help in one form or another. Must be spring.
Some of these have been lurkers here, while others are long time members. I'm also delighted to see that a few people who knew me from the "other" forum, have found me here and signed up just to ask for my help. Please join us and make yourselves known. The people here are great.
I'm sure I'm not the only member here who has been honored by those seeking help and perhaps I might speak for them as well. Whatever is the reason you choose to contact me with your questions instead of posting in the public forums, I'd like to suggest that you post these questions so that the answers may be of benefit to others who may also have the same concerns. If I answer only to you, no one else will benefit from the responses and you also miss out on the opinions of many others who also have good, valid answers. Start a new thread with your questions and if you wish for me (or any other member) to respond, simply send me a PM with the link to that thread. You may get your answer more quickly by someone else who sees it before me. When I get to it and if I have something further to add, I will do so.

The intent of my post here is NOT that I mind fielding your questions. I shall continue to do so if using PM is the only way you feel comfortable in this area. I just think that ALL viewers of this forum would benefit from your questions and the resulting answers, even if they have been covered before. I would like to think that THIS site, as opposed to the "other" one, is comprised of individuals of a higher quality and won't ridicule you for asking a question that you might consider "dumb" or be condescending if you didn't do the proper search (as we have seen that other forum deteriorate to in the past recent years).

Thanks for reading and happy S2000 motoring.

PS. The admins of this site has honored me by naming this forum after me. It's kinda like "in memoriam" but I'm not dead yet. I would like to think that answers to questions asked here can be provided by anyone who can help ( and not by just me). This forum is for all "gear heads" and those who seek their assistance.

PPS. When asking a question regarding an issue to do with your car, it is very important to state the year of the car and how many miles on it and what mods are on it and for how long. Sometimes, people think others have crystal balls that can devine this information. We don't.

PPPS. I've been getting a few PMs lately mainly from guests who have never even posted on this board. Some even registered here just to send me a PM. I will NOT be replying to such PMs any further. I've answered these requests for help, along with a request for clarification on some points. I never hear from these people again, not even to give me an update on how things went. If it's not important enough for you to get back to me, it's not important for me to even open your PM in the first place, especially if I don't know you.
One guy even went through a couple of PMs about his urgent problem, only to later tell me his car once had a Comptech supercharger on it. Did you not think this was important to mention in your very first PM? With this information, I know what's wrong with your car but I could care less to tell you now.
We have a couple of forums on this site that you can post your questions and you will get the benefit of all who might have the knowledge to help. I'm not the only one. I'm going ask that you post your questions on the open forums. That's what they are here for.
BTW, I don't get paid by this site to answer your PMs.

Great suggestion Dave! That way everyone benefits from your knowledge and that of other members. I went ahead and made it a sticky (hopefully that is OK with you). :)

Thanks. That would be great. Some of the questions that I've been receiving have been really, really good questions. It's a shame that not everyone can see the outcomes. I won't post them even if I don't name names because the question was asked in confidence and the asker might feel embarassed though his identity was not revealed. In time, I may just do a "How To" on that subject anyway.

FULLY HYDROGENATED PALM OIL
This is what I'd use for this purpose.

I've been getting a few PMs each month from people who have been perhaps a bit shy to post their questions in the public forums. That's OK. Not everyone wishes to do it in such a public way. However, some of these questions have been exceptionally interesting and I think the general forum population could benefit immensely from them and the resultant answers to those queries.
Therefore, I have decided that from time to time, I will feature these questions in a new thread but I will NOT give any hints as to who the question asker was. This way, their IDs are kept privileged, yet the answer and questions can still be viewed by others.

The following was also discussed at S2K Days in San Fran: I have never been much of a salesman. I don't actively go out and about to solicit new members for the site. BUT, if you feel that the advice given to you by me or by others here have been of some value, it would be terrific if you could show your appreciation by buying a membership. This is a non-profit organization and the monies eventually go back to the membership and those who use this site. The funds DO NOT go into anyone's pocket nor do they generate income for anyone. It is solely used for the benefit of the S2KCA members and users.

Way to go. I think your advice has been great.

I agree at the very least worth the price of a membership.

I will testify to that! Jason is active in the club and I know that no one draws any kind of a salary.

:)

Keep up the good work Dave!

Talk to Justin. He gave me a 5000% raise at S2K Days. Funny, that still leaves me with 0 dollars.

I don't even care if there's no thanks. A follow up would be nice to hear. And I really object to someone (likely from the other forum) registering here just to PM me and never hearing from them again. Least they can do is post a "hello" on the board.
