I could use some ideas on how to mount some rear speakers.

Since I no longer have a soft top, I am mounting the 5 1/4 I had behind the seat to the rear deck. I am making some boxes and curving the back of the box to follow the deck. at first I was just going to mount them on the rear deck with a couple of bolts, but start questioning if the deck could handle the stress. Velcro was an idea, but I don't think it could handle the heat of summer here in Houston. Snaps, a maybe, I have the tool from when I had British cars.

Any ideas or thoughts?

do you mean you are mounting them where the roll hoops used to be?

boxes under the roll hoops would look really cool

If you put in a set of K2P's, you will not need rear speakers. Or have to build any boxes. Only a little mod inside the door for clearance.

If you're talking about the soft top well, you should mount them as solidly as possible. That's a pretty thin piece of material, that in itself, is not that well secured. At high volume, that whole area may begin to buzz.

yes that is where I am talking about, I don't play the music really loud, but I am worried about mount.
I guess I could go over to the sides and mount them above the wheel wells.

i'm a few weeks away from starting on an audio system myself. I would really appreciate it if you took some pictures of where you end up mounting your speakers. My last car ended up with 16 speakers, 4 amps and two subs. sadly i can't go that extravagant with my s2... I'm thinking i'll be able to replace the door speakers and add four more- one near the stock position and one towards the outer edge. then i want to do at least two- and possibly four behind the seats. Is there space under the rear deck for speaker magnets to hang? then i'll replace my headrest speakers- put an amp and a 10" sub in the trunk and call it...

There is room but there are a few cross bars you have to content with. Anything with a double stacked magnet is almost impossible without cutting or being creative with angles or enclosures.

I have build two boxes, so that the speakers can be removed if need.

I guess I could just leave them behind the seat, my wife said it sounds about the same.

here is a pic of the speaker & box.

The first pic is of where I wanted to mount the speaker and where I made the box to fit.

This pic is where the box could go and that is a stronger mounting area, as it is just over the wheel well.

options as I see it are:
1) remount the speakers behind the seat
2) just mount the speakers as I wanted and see what happens
3) mount them on the side and see what happens
4) cut hold in the rear deck
5) make smaller boxes, and don't use the screen covers

Actually if you get a pair of Focal 165 K2P's and biamp them with a high quality amp and crossovers, it will fill the cabin with exquisite sound quality and if you have a fifth channel you can add a sub.

Jonathan is correct, The Focals do a great job of giving you great sound.

I found that adding the rears, just fills the cabin with sound, at a lower volume.

I think I have found a way to mount the speakers, with drilling one hole on each side. Hard to explain, but I will post pictures next weekend.

I'll check out the focals for sure- i was going to go blaupunkt because i have a sponsorship with them but i can take advice :worship:

and what is biamping? i'm guessing it's using two amps for fewer speakers? what purpose does that serve? better sound quality or more threshold before sound distortion?

box is available if you want it (shipping might be a bit expensive because of the size and only the top is CF)

Not a waste of money everything cost 150 including the 6.5" specialty woofer w/ Neodymium magnet (30hz-1000hz)
Cheaper then the JL6.5" subs and out perform them in every aspect.

But to each there own thought I would offer.:rolleye2:

Time to awaken this thread from its monthly slumber...

I would like to biamp a set of component speakers. Does somebody have a diagram or instructions to biamping? I have a Alpine PDX 4.150 which is putting out 170 watts rms power from the factory test sheet. I need to find a set of speakers that closely matches this specification.

The Focal 165 K2P can handle about 100 rms power correct? I want to find a component speaker set that can handle at least 150 watts rms.

I also would like some information on a great wiring kit. The PDX amp requires 4 gauge wire going to it and I was just wondering on what some of you used in this situation.
