I'll be installing my Comptech supercharger this weekend. But I'm from a pretty small town and don't think there are many dyno options in Grand Junction with a wideband. My question is, I go to school in Fort Collins and I'll be on spring break all next week. Would there be any devastating consequences to drive the car back to Ft. Collins (300 miles) without the belt, to get the car tuned up here? Or if anyone has any recommendations on what the fuel pressure should be set on the FMU for the stock 5.5lb pulley, to get me safely over to Fort Collins.

It's a used kit, but it's going to be running everything stock about the kit, ESM, FMU, etc.

Thanks Dave

You should be ok. I did something similar but just backed the tension on the belt off and it ran fine
all the way to the dyno shop.

You might want to call up TC Performance and ask Tobi or Mike. They will know for sure. They R the ones who installed my s/c and many others. Good stuff.

I also know Sideways knows what he is talking about, at least most of the time. ;)

I would bypass the FMU, and make sure you have the stock injectors, and stock ECU in the car. add the FMU back in when you go to tune it and then the AEM (if you are using one)

If you are using the comptech electronics, then I would give Comptech a call

My S/C is in the shop, and I have done 300+ miles without any signs of problems.

The electronics should be doing nothing until boost is detected. With no boost, it should do nothing.

The FMU might cause a rich condition at WOT, but the computer may compensate for the pressure rise by cutting back the timing on the injectors. Not sure if it checks the O2 sensor at WOT, or goes into a look-up table mode. (I know more about how the Miata computer works.) I just don't give it enough gas to get out of closed loop mode too often.

If your Comptech kit is totally stock, there's not really much worry about driving it fully installed. If you're really worried about it, then just don't go beyond 5500 rpm. Nothing much happens when there's no measurable boost. The fuel pressure only ramps up based on boost. The ESM only comes into play based on boost. No boost and the engine runs like it was more or less stock. Lots of people install the stock CT and never get it tuned at all.
However, if you are REALLY worried about it. Running without the belt is also an option. I ran without mine for several days while I was completing my installation.
