So I figured out that where the driveshaft connects to the tranny, *that area bearing is going out. *i assume it is called a tailend bearing or tailshaft bearing. ******i am looking for instructions on changing it out. Do any of you have the diagram or instructions to do so. It is part #12 from Honda and costs 17 bucks. Thanks in advance.

If you are going to do the work yourself, get a shop manual.

Huh. I passed a silver S2k that had the rear end lock up on SW Parkway. I circled around to see if he needed any help. Didn't recognize the driver.
Maybe silver S2k's in Austin are having rear end problems.
Hey,
1.) Glad it wasn't you locked up yesterday.
2.) Good luck finding the problem

Site didnt work and *i need it by *tuesday. Any info on how to complete the job. I assume you just have to remove the plate on the back of the tranny and pull the driveshaft out. Is there any clips holding it in and do you need to drain the tranny first?

The driveshaft (propshaft) doesn't pull out like in a traditional RWD American car. The propshaft is connected to the tranny output flange with 6 Allen wrench bolts. The shaft can then be pushed aside and held out of the way. The output flange must then be removed. It's on there with considerable torque and you'll either need an impact gun to get it undone or you'll need some way of holding the engine crank pulley, leaving the tranny in gear, then turning the flange locking nut. Once you get the flange off, the seal should be visible. I've never changed that seal before and my service manual is at home (I'm at work), so I can't tell you what other things you have to get out of the way. Otherwise, I could tell you exactly how to do it. I think once you yank the seal out and bearing out, the oil will just fall out. Probably best to drain the fluid first.

I've had a chance to look at the manual on this. I believe it's possible to change this bearing with the tranny still in the car. However, there may be a couple of issues. First, once the bearing exposed after all the flange parts, oil seal, etc. are removed, I can't say how much force is required to pull that bearing out. I don't think it's pressed in as I've heard of mechanics who have done this without taking the tranny out and apart. Second, it may not be this bearing that's in need of replacement. I could be the inner seconcary output shaft bearing and to change this, the tranny must be disassembled and a press used.
