I posted a thread a few days ago about my VTEC not engaging. I appreciate everyone's input.

Based on the input I received, I realized that my VTEC is in fact engaging. The car runs well, I can go to the red line with no problems.

What I have recently noticed with my car, which by the way is stock, is that now I cannot feel the VTEC kick in like I used to. I could actually feel a pull at 6,000 RPM, but now that is gone.

As far as the engine sound, it gets louder past 6,000 RPMs, but I cannot hear that roar that people talk about.

What could be causing this? The oil level is fine, the Engine light does not come on, there are no codes, and I have not done anything to the engine.

Thank you very much.

José

On my '06, I've noticed that the VTEC kick doesn't happen if the revs slowly increase up to the 6200 or so RPM's, but it does when I rev it up quickly past that level. I also notice less of a kick in 4th + gear than I do in 3rd and below.

Thanks Chuck,

That sounds right. With my car, I used to feel more of a pull during quick acceleration like you described, but I always felt the transition, even during less aggressive driving.

Thanks for the feedback,

José

1. Check oil level. If you are running low, VTEC may not be as pronounced.
2. Check the other maintenance items on your engine. Spark plugs, air filter, fuel quality may also be a contributing factor.

VTEC transition is most noticable if you accelerate rapidly (pedal to the metal) and in the lower gears.

Sometimes the high cam engagement will not occur under partial throttle. You have to remember that the VTEC high cam is engaged under certain conditions like oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature, throttle position, engine load etc..... you can raise your rpms past 6000rpms under light throttle but in fact the high cam might not even engage. I never pass 6000 rpms unless i am 75% throttle or full....

As for the "kick" feeling in 4th compared to 3rd gear, thats simply gearing and speed. You will always feel more of a "kick" transition in 1st or 2nd gears.

Just wanted to give you all an update.

I took my car to the local dealer and as expected they found nothing wrong with my car. They tested it on their machine and the VTEC was working as it should, but that was as far as they were willing to look.

I then took it to a dealer at a bigger city 70 miles away, and they tested it. They told me that the VTEC was working fine, but there was a problem with the fuel injectors. They replaced the injectors and now my cars is as good as new. I feel the pull again. I guess it wasn't just my imagination, or me just being used to my car. There really was something wrong with it.

I APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S INPUT.

Good for you! I never would have guessed injectors based on what you described.

what did a new injector run you?

Injectors are about $175 from the stealership. Question though, where is the fuel filter located on our car and how do you change it? I am too lazy today to find a thread. Thanks for helping.

We don't have a fuel "filter" as such. We have a sort of fuel "sock". It's located on the end of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. It's not a simple job to change it. You have to remove the soft top tray fasteners from above, then pull the tray out the trunk. Obviously, the trunk liner has to come out first. Then there's having to release the fuel pressure first.

My car is still under warranty so the injectors didn't cost me anything.
