Folks:

I have a chip in my windshield, about 2mm in diameter, almost directly in my line of site. I've seen a repair kit in the Griot's Garage catalog for this type of thing, some sort of injectible material. Anybody have any experience with this kit or any other solution for the problem, or should I just get used to it?

Thanks.

Tom,

Get it fixed right away. It will turn into a spider if you don't. They can actually fix that at a shop. Just look up someone who replaces windshields, they more than likely will be able to fix it.

I had it done once and it worked good. The crack never extended out and even though I could see it, it was not much of a destraction. $10 or a new windshield? I did not use a kit there was a guy on the side of the road.

Any good automotive glass shop should be able to fix that for you...

Most automotive insurance will pay in full to have it done and it does not show up as a claim.

The "DIY" kits might be OK if the chip is superficial. However, if it's well into the glass, then it requires professional repair. Last I witnessed, the professional way involved using vacuum to ensure that all moisture is evacuated out of the little cracks in the chip, then the epoxy filler infiltrates the chip both by vacuum and by injection for a real good fix.
Until you get it repaired, I suggest you dry it (if it's wet) and put a piece of clear tape over it to prevent any more humidity from getting in. Water can aggravate and accelerate the spread until it's fixed. Novus used to hand out these little plastic discs that you put on each chip to help preserve it till you got to the repair shop.

Yep. If you have cold weather coming soon it could turn into a Crack that reaches the otherside of your windshield. A pro should be able to offer a "repair" for $25 or less. It looks like super glue but it may very well be something else like ripev said. BTW Honda Genuine windshields are VERY expensive. And the Rubber trim is usually sold Seperate. I think I got mine from Safelite and the Rubber trim was pre-installed, and it was almost HALF the cost.

Thanks to everyone for their input. It's dry and garaged right now so it's next stop will be the local recommended windshield shop.

Thanks again.
