I saw another thread in which someone asked about a greasy/oily "undercoating" substance. http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=17992

I noticed this on my 2007 S2000 as well -- the metal portions of the wheel wells appear to have a heavy oil / grease substance evenly sprayed into them. It really appears to be something that was intentionally sprayed, as it is far too consistent and even to be an axle boot leak or something like that.

Is this true - Honda sprays some form of thick oily / grease substance into the wheels wells, presumably to combat rust?

I have a year 2000 and it has the same "coating". If you look under the car, you'll see it in various places. I believe it comes from the factory like that. My car has been through 6 winters (going into it's 7th) of some of the most horrendous conditions you could possibly imagine a car being subjected to. The car is holding up amazingly well. Honda did a great job at rust protection right from the get go.

Thanks repiv. I guess if your S2K can hold up like that in wintery Canada, mine should do just fine here in the high desert of southern California. :rolleye2:

It's not "Grease" Go look at a new one, they aren't "Greasy." It's a sprayed on urethane. The bottom of th sides of your car has it too, except it's been painted over.
