I ordered a 2007 MX-5 on the S-Plan (guaranteed price). After ordering the car and waiting for it to arrive, the dealer backed out of our S-Plan deal -- dealers are slimy creatures. Now I'm the owner of a new 2007 S2000.
Unfortunately, I'd already purchased a few things for the MX-5 that I can't use for the S2000. For example, some filters and oil: Redline 5W20. After trying unsuccessfully to sell the oil and filters on the MX-5 forum, someone suggested that I use the oil in the S2000. I was reluctant to do that since the manual recommends 10W30. So, should I use the 5W20 or find a new home for it?
I've already figured out that I shouldn't change the oil until the scheduled maintenance time, and I know the MX-5 filters won't fit.

A 5W20 would be too thin when things get hot. The engine needs to have a prescribed oil pressure and a certain spray pattern for the oiljets under each piston. A very thin oil won't provide these requirements. We have a very expensive and complex engine. It would be a shame to ruin it just save a few bucks on some oil you already have in your possesion.
If you operated the car in the extreme cold and for less than an hour at a time, then I would say sure, go ahead and use it, but even in Utah, would this occur on a regular basis. I live in potentially very cold operating conditions and I don't think I would risk using such a thin oil in the S. Go with your car's "oil minder" and use what Honda recommends for oil. If anything should happen with your engine, at least they can't say it's because you used the wrong oil (warranty issues).
And yes, I've experienced many car salesmen who are lying, thieving scum. What else is new? :guns:
PS. I also have a Honda Fit. It uses 5W20 oil. You might try to sell it to someone near you who has a Fit. As for the filters, you might try to cross reference them and see what other vehicles use them. It may surprise you how many other vehicles can use them. Believe it or not, my Fit oil filters will work in my Yamaha FJR motorcycle.

I believe all the Honda's except for the S use the 5W-20 oil, as well as most other new cars. I would think you'd be able to get rid of both on Craig's list. It's worth a try.

Save the hybrids. They use 0w20. or was it 0w30, I've forgotten.
