Just to lighten the mood here. :) Can VTEC be engaged when driving in reverse?

Did you ever know LipS2000 (Mark), one of the original HouStooks? One of his claims of fame (or infamy, as the case may be), was hitting redline in reverse....~55 mph IIRC.

I thought that was an urban myth. So it's true!

I haven't hit Vtec in reverse, but the other day I was in reverse (missed an entrance ramp  ) and my Fujita kicked in!!!! (About 4K...) :yikes:

I started laughing and slowed down...got on the CORRECT entrance ramp and VTEC'd again!!!!

Hey I'll sit in the passenger seat and run the camera inside while someone else is taping outside.:D

I would have to do this before I reinstall the Mugen Multivision Meter since we can't figure out how to wire the speedometer.

VTEC is dependent upon engine operating parameters. The engine (or the ECU) really doesn't know what gear you're in. The only electronic inputs and outputs to the tranny is the reverse switch and the speed sensor. The speed sensor works on a magnetic principle and can't tell which way the magnetic field is being interupted.

I have hit VTEC in reverse. It's a crazy feeling, almost dizzying really.

If I remember correctly, there was a video of Mark (Lips2000) doing this too.

Be careful guys! Rear steering isn't very stable at high speeds.

(I'll watch the video if you get it, though. :D )

I realize it's not the best proof out there, but I blame my camera man since he didn't think to get a shot out of the windshield while in reverse. You clearly hear VTEC, and you can hear the whine of the reverse gear as well. At the end you can hear the ABS kicking in. I wouldn't say that the S2k has very good reverse stopping ability...

It was pretty scary especially with how sensitive the steering input is, but I was on a wide dead end road so it was relatively safe.

Looks like you got it to 44mph in reverse w/VTEC. Didn't Lips (Mark) do it @ 50mph? :shifter:

An AP1 can do it at 48.4 mph @9000rpm.
An AP2 can do it at 41.2 mph @8000rpm. So both could squeeze out a bit more if you go to the limiter and hang there for a second or two for the speedo to catch up (lag).

You know way too much about these cars..

Tom, I can't take all the credit. I use this handy, dandy "gear calculator".

Anybody can do it. ;)

I didn't think I took it to the redline despite how it looks on my tach. I let off the gas when the speed and twitchyness got past my comfort point.
