Question about gas light

I have a question about the gas light. Does your gas light comes on when you turn on your ignition switch and the gauges sweep? Mine does not comes on when I do this. I can't recall whether it did come on or not during the sweeping mode of the gauge. Another thing is when does your gas light comes on. I can remember my gas light coming on when I have 2 bars of gas left. Now it don't. It's been a while since I let my gas go down this low so I don't even know when the problem started happening. Mine comes on when there's one line left. But once in a while, the sensor in the tank sticks and doesn't register what the real level of gas in the tank really is. I've never paid any attention to whether or not the gas light comes on when the engine is started.

There doesn't seem to be a direct correlation with the number of bars and the gas light. Sometimes i'll have no bars with no gas light on, sometimes 2 bars with the gas light on. It's never consistent. I just go by the mileage. When it hits 200 then i'll start thinking about refueling.

Mine is pretty consistent with coming on when there are 2 bars remaining. And I'm not too sure about it coming on when the car is started.

I just checked. My gas light does not come on when I first turn the key on and the other lights flash.

it's been so long since I let my gas tank get this low...I don't even remember how many bar it takes to get my gas light on anymore.

mine comes on when i have one bar...but i usually fill up at about 250-275 miles on that tank, so i dont see that light much

It doesn't come on during the "test" cycle. Depending upon the "slosh" factor, the light can come one with as little as 3 bars on the gas gauge. If the car isn't jostled around too much, it doesn't come one till about 1 bar. However, once it comes on, it stays on even if the slosh factor brings it back up to more than 3 bars.

Note: I've gone with no bars on the hiway for up to about 50 miles and upon filling up, discovered the tank wasn't even near close to empty.

i had one time that i thought i was about to run out of gas and it was about 20 miles till the next gas station...and when i filled up it only took like 11 gallons...we have what a 13.3 gallon tank right? that means i could have went like ~50 more miles

How can you got 275 miles and NOT see the gas light?? Are you doing all of your driving on the highway?

Ive had my light come on when i first start my car and then the level comes back up and turns the light off
