SO when I get in my car to start it the mant. required light flashes but doesn't stay on. Is there something very wrong. I just recently did the 30k mile service myself and didn't reset the code. Is this all that is needed? I have an 01, thanks.

probably just need to reset the code...
it always flashes to remind, and then goes solid. To turn it off, if memory serves, hold the "trip" button with the car OFF...then, while continuing to hold the trip button, turn the car key to on and then hold the button til the light goes out. (You may have to wait until its staying lit)

hold it for about..... ehh... 10-15 seconds
for the 06 (maint. minder, its different though)

From xviper (repriv):

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light (As indicated by the light that says, "MAINT REQU'D"):
- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.
- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster.
- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off.
-(This part has been added for those who are impatient or who have the light only at the "blinking" stage and not yet solid.) KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO BE SURE OF A POSITIVE RESET. Or maybe just be patient and wait till the light is on all the time before doing this.
- (Some manuals may be a bit off in that they do not tell you to turn the key to the ON position.)
NOTE: This light is only a mileage counter and acts as a reminder to do your oil change following the "normal" maintenance schedule. When you have reached a certain mileage after the last reset, it will begin to blink upon each start up. Once you have covered more mileage, it will stay on all the time. The light can be reset anytime after it first blinks or stays on.
(NO, the light does NOT mean your car is about the IMPLODE! -- RELAX!)

I thought that was if the light stayed solid? This lights flashes like 4-5 times then goes blank. Is this the same thing?

Its does that as an indication your getting close to the maintenance interval. It will stay solid once you get to the maintenace interval. Right before it gets to that interval, it does that.

Read gomarlins post just a few minutes before yours. It covers it all (or, I should say, Dave covered it well). :D

sorry for the repost, after i posted again I read the entire thing. Thanks all that helped. I changed the pads today and the stock pads were still on it with over 1/2 life left. Not bad for a 6 yr old car huh?

I would do the maintenance and then reset the light.
