I now have 9800 miles on my 06' and am just about due for my next oil change.I've been using Honda Oil and my car burns zero oil. I am N/A and like to drive the car hard in the twisties here where I live holding 5-6k for extended periods around turns with frequent rev matching heel/toe.
My options are stay with Dino oil or move up to Mobil1 or possibly the Motorcraft 10/30 synthetic Blend G4? Looking for the masters opinion. My only current mod is Fipk and the Hondata stock reflash. Thanks John

John you can switch to syn oil at this point. General consensus is change to syn oil at around 10 K miles. :agree:

Honda oil used to be just Mobil "Drive Clean" that was re-badged for Honda's stock. I'm not sure exactly what it is today. It's nothing special, but it does a very credible job.
Today's dino oil is very good for the change intervals that we customarily utilize. Used oil analysis has shown that brand name dino oil, after as much as 7500 miles still retains ample protection and could go much longer. The limiting factor is the oil filter, which should be changed at the recommended interval for your use of the car. In fact, so long as the car is under warranty, you are advised to maintain the recommended interval for the oil, too.
Like Ed just said, you are OK to convert to full synthetic at any time if that's what you care to do. Your AP2 doesn't exhibit the same sort of oil usage that AP1s did. Honda did something to the cylinder liners, the rings and also reduced the redline by 1000 rpm on your engine. This made it really unnecessary to hold off going to synthetic but Honda simply left that recommendation in the books for AP2s since they didn't really know what would happen and they just wanted to play it safe. Synthetics certainly do flow better than dino, even at the same viscosity ratings. If you were S/C'd or turboed, I'd say for sure go with full synthetic. If you drive your car in the cold, again, go synthetic. However, you would not be doing anything bad to your engine if you stayed with a brand name dino oil like Castrol or even the Honda oil. Any other brand name oil would be just as good (Penzoil, Q. State, Valvoline, etc.).
Some people (mostly AP1 owners) have indicated that they started to consume more oil once they switched to synthetic. I've personally known cars (both AP1 & 2) that have gone their lives so far with dino or synthetic and neither has suffered any ill effects.
Personally, I would not bother with a blend. Go all dino or full synthetic.
The ultimate choice is really up to you.
