Looks nice!

But... seen an A/B dyno? There was an ITB discussion in a thread on s2ki, and I pointed out that with ITBs you're sucking in air from the hottest part of the engine bay. The stock intake system has decent flow to begin with, so, if I were to lay out a semi-educated guess, I'd say these will hurt more than help. Just my 2 centavos :)

My Lotus has ITB's. It comes with a carbon fiber "cover" that attaches to a hose that pulls air from the driver-side vent. I'm sure something like this could be made and routed to a cold air source.

I agree Brad, but my point is that the system, as is sold, may not add power since the gains in volumetric efficiency may be offset because the air is going to be considerably warmer. A well placed hood vent would, of course, alleviate that.

That would look like crap - I think you have to route a hose up to the front of the car.

Well, it wouldn't necessarily have to be a direct intake from the hood; just something on the hood to guide cold (outside) air to that vicinity. Alternatively, an exhausting hood and increased front opening to cool the entire engine bay would accomplish the same thing.

I rode in the subject's s a few weeks ago prior to him adding a custom header, exhaust, etc. The car was very fast to say the least. I guess we will only know of real # power gains once he finished tuning the aem unit and hits a dyno.

Well... my car is pretty fast, and it's bone stock... ;)

Not to hijack this thread, but in case you get bored of your stock car and if you're interested in a tuned-up S2000, you might want to check this thread (http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=166792).

These are not happy times in Houston. :(

So we were arrested for almost racing. I have no doubt that we both will get off (if they even prosecute us for "racing") but that doesn't change the events that happened. Houston is aggresively trying to crack down on street racers and they are willing to stop and arrest anyone that looks like they might be doing something wrong. So, you can be arrested for speeding and changing lanes...if you have a car that looks like it's been modified for racing. If I had actually been racing I would probably be telling myself that I should just be more careful and not race. But the way I was driving is the way I drive everytime I get into the car. I just feel that at this time of my life, and living in Houston, this car is going to continue to be nothing but trouble legally. I don't want to drive around scared all of the time wondering if I'm going to get arrested for accelerating around a slower car.

I grew up in Houston and used to race up and down EVERY SINGLE weekend on Westheimer...20 years ago!

I don't know Wes really at all, nor do I know his driving habits (nor did I read the thread that you posted)...but cops have had two DECADES to crack down on street racing since I used to race down there. Two DECADES! I don't know, things were different back then...in the early 80's in Texas, drinking a beer while driving was almost mandatory, I got about 25 tickets before I was 19 (and talked my way our of at least a dozen more) and only had my license put on probation for 6 months. Blah blah blah. Went to jail a few times for stupid crap, nothing ever stuck and it was never serious. But I was never paranoid and kept driving like I always drove.

Then I grew up...

And stopped putting other people's lives at risk for the sake of being cool.

Westheimer used to be a place to take your T/A, 442, Z28, Vette, Charger, Daytona, GTO...whatever, to show off and have fun. Don't know if it's still like that with the invasion of the import scene. I do miss those days though, I'm just glad I didn't die, nor did I ever hurt, or worse, kill anyone. In fact, only I have been hurt in the wrecks that I have been in...but happily not while I was street racing.

Part of growing up is not putting people's lives at risk, except when it is your own and you are certain that there can be NO ONE else involved. Now I only run on road courses and 1/4 miles...both are controlled and are a huge blast.

Maybe there is a lesson buried somewhere in this story...hmmmm?

Looks like they're having some technical issues over at S2ki...hmmmm

Oh, they're back up again...that really sucks for your buddy. It all sounds like a bunch of BS.
BTW - I've actually put my front plates on here in the Dallas area...really sucks but I don't want to draw ANY extra attention to my S - even though it may make it easier for the cops here in Plano to get a good reflect on the laser that they're using here more often.

Westheimer still used to be the place -- until about four months ago. Some kids were racing, one guy lost control and went over the median amd crashed into a taxi. Nobody died (thankgod), but four people got hurt. Cops cracked down ever since, even on the simple weekend gettogethers where people were just standing around and checking out each others' cars... New anti-racing laws went on the books in September. But this is definitely overkill. And I am still not sure how you can get arrested for something you might do.

And I am not sure they sufficiently defined "racing" in the laws to begin with. I think we had another thread here somewhere about that.

Yeah, I read the new laws and commented that without a clear definition of racing, it was just a tool for harassment.

re: ITB's - lots of info and a video over at http://www.honda-tech.com/

re: Westheimer - used to do the same thing ages ago. they are always cracking down. there will always be the occassional really-bad-wreck that is close to being fatal. not sure if one has ever been fatal, but I would expect the possibilities to be up there. I've done my share of stupid stupid stupid stuff on Westheimer. it didn't teach me much other than it is all about 90% car/10% driver. The tables turn the other way on the road courses and in autocrossing. Skills and abilities are everything, and going in a straight line does nothing. But some people are out there and at the drag strips because they enjoy it. There's nothing you can do, nor I to prevent that from happening. The only way around it is exposure exposure expsore. If someone hadn't introduced me to the Houston SCCA group some 13 years ago, I wouldn't have known better.

Regardless, good luck on the ticket. Ask the right questions to the officer, and present the case rightfully to the judge. However, if it is a female judge in Houston (going from my past experiences), you will end up paying the ticket outright and it will go on your record even if you were not even in the car, or even if the cop wasn't even around within a 300 mile radius. It just works in a strange way up there.

is there a reputable dyno showing gains of only itb's, not itb's installed with the ems, more like a dyno showing the gains of the itb's after a dyno has been done showing the gains of the ems tuned? I think we wont see unless it makes the earlier claimed gains fo 50whp.
