I put the kn fipk (aircharger) on my 06' and it works great.I went ahead and insulated the box and tube since it seemed to get so hot.My question is I also insulaqted the inside of the box with the same reflective self adhesive foam backed duct insulation.I started wondering if that would be counter productive since it has a reflective coating. It seems way cooler but I'm not sure if insulating the inside of the box is helping or hurting. Any thoughts?

I don't think it's hurting anything in a significant way. The heat is on the outside of the box, so if you felt you needed more insulation, it would have been more productive to put a second layer on the outside (even though a single layer would have been quite adequate. The inside will have a constant changeover of cool air anyway to keep things under control.

Since my SPA temp probe which is located in the block drain failed and I am not replacing it until I change back to antifreeze, I have a new sensor in the engine compartment. It is laying in the frame rail beside, but slightly behind the radiator. It gives an interesting view of under hood temp. On the freeway I see 85 degees, in traffic and when stopped 105. This is with outside air temps in the mid 80's.

not to :threadjack: the tread..... but Jonathan... "switch back to antifreeze" ??
are you running a VW air cooled system??

Thanks,I actually did put a second layer on the outside of the box . I think the insulation thing went to my brain and I started insulating everything :o . Another question is its really a lot louder than I expected:shocked: ,anyway to quiet it down a little? I actually thought the insulation would help but it didn't . I like the sound but it gets really loud at wide open throttle.:shout:

I don't there's much you can do about the sound beyond what you've already done. It's the sound of air rushing into the engine, combined with the internal engine sounds (combustion) coming back out the intake and being amplified by the intake itself. The corrugated tube of the stock system and the sound chamber of the stock airbox helps to counter these sounds waves.

You're also getting a more turbulent, less managed airflow with that intake, so you tend to get a lot more sound from it. The stock intake manages the air much better. Take the cover off the stock box and you'll get a sound similar to the K&N FIPK.
I can't imagine wanting that intake to be quieter, though. You should hear the PRM intake!

I was under the impression it was an air intake system. Thanks for the info.

It basically is. K&N names their products all sorts of oddball names that make no sense.
Their "air intake systems" and "air induction systems" are like the AEM/Injen/Fujita kind of CAIs.
Then they have "FIPKs", "high flow air intakes" and "Aircharger systems" that all seems similar to each other (with the filter having some sort of enclosure). It really doesn't make much sense and I'm sure it's al marketing.
