I took my test pipe off a few weeks ago after the O2 bung fell and scraped on the pavement. The treads were destroyed and one side of the bung was worn away. It cannot be salvaged.
I now want to reinstall the TP but I have only one of the two bungs that came with the TP.
Does anyone know if using only one O2 bung will offset the O2 sensor enough to keep from throwing a CEL? I spent much of today going to Lowes and other stores hoping to find a replacement. Unfortunately, they only have non metric sizes.
I did not want to go to the trouble of pulling the CAT, installing the TP and trying it only to learn that one bung is not enough.
Any help is appreciated.
:)

I apologize in advance, but if this isn't a Beavis and Butthead lead in I don't know what is...

You can try it, but I don't think it will work with just one. Shoot me a PM and I'll help you out.

By "bung", I take it you mean the spark plug non-fouler, right? The problem with having one is that it must be drilled out to accommodate the sensor. This leaves the end that screws into the TP too exposed to the gas flow. It is the second one that is left as is, with its small hole, that keeps much of the gas flow away from the sensor. The other option is to weld an extension tube onto the TP that you can screw the first non-fouler into. And if you go that route, you should have the extension tube angled up and away from the ground so you don't hit it again. About a 3" extension should do it.

Thanks Dave. The one I have is female on one end for the sensor and male on the other that connects to the TP. In effect, the distance from the O2 to the pipe is half what it was with the 2 piece .

Some people have been able to do with just one non-fouler, but most cannot. Try it and see. Worst comes to worst, you'll have to go back under and unscrew it and add another one in. Spark plug non-foulers should be available at autoparts stores. Don't confuse the supplied bungs with non-foulers. Those bungs are short little nut like things that merely installs a thread into the TP. It is the non-foulers length that prevent the CEL. If you were able to get away with 2 bungs, then I would say if you install the sensor into a drilled out non-fouler and install that into the remaining bung, you're in business.
