View Full Version : Tach Wire Location

To start I have one of those "lets change everthing electrical S's" aka 2006 for those who don't know me... I have a new Modifry Redline indicator that is all hooked up minus the tach wire. It (tach wire) is blue (I hear/read) and can be found in the passengers side dash next to the top (roof) controller (Modifry.) Yep there are plenty of BLUE wires with colored traces and one with no traces that has voltage on it at engine rest and when you turn off the ignition (not good.) If you know where this little monster is or even the service port under the hood I would appreciate it!

Sorry dude I have no idea but you are looking in the right place.
Good Luck!
BTW once you figure this out you can show me as this is a Mod I would like to do also.

Someone has to have done this before me so I hope they reply before I go NUTS. Tomorrow after work I am ECU diving since it generates the "tach pulse." I just don't want to deal with 6000 wires - well almost 6000 but ALL BLUE!

This wire will be in the ECU, under the driver's side kick panel. I don't have an MY06 service manual handy or I would tell you the connector and wire location in the connector. You may want to order a Helms manual. (www.helminc.com) if you place on doing more to your car. There is nothing better.

Do you have the installation instructions? Here it is in PDF form:
http://modifry.com/products/rlb/RLB-2%20Manual%201.8.pdf
Take a look at the last picture on page 3 that shows where the C204 connector is. The take a look at the first picture on page 4 that shows exactly where the only solid blue wire is (connector C204, Pin 5). First look for the only Brown wire in that connector. The blue one is just below the brown one. Yes, there are lots of blue wires, but only one is solid. All other blue wires are striped with another color.
PS. Of course we're looking behind the passenger removable panel, not at the ECU.

I posted the following on another forum a while back:
I installed Modifry's Redline Shift Beeper this morning in my 2006 S2K.
So far, I only did the first part of the install (the non-optional part). There are some minor differences from the pictures given in the online instructions.
The panel on the passenger's side uses two push-to-release pins and one phillips screw in addition to the other pry/pop off fasteners. I used the official honda-specified tools but they weren't needed for this simple task, almost any prying tool would probably work (pref. something wider than a screwdriver).
On the 2006, the convertible top connector/module appears the same as in the installation pictures.
However, on the 2006, the connector (C204) with the tach wire appears a bit different. It is turned 90 degrees, appears to be mounted a bit further inside and more to the right (as compared to the picture in the installation document), and also now has a small yellow box attached to its side. (This little yellow box is about 1 inch by 1/2 inch by 1/8 inch, and has a wire coming out of each end.) I had difficulty getting to the connector itself, so instead I just took off some of the electrical tape from the wire bundle that is going into the upper end, and located the tach wire as described in the instructions (the only medium blue with no lengthwise stripes - it does have some silver bands though.)
I used the extension wire to relocate the beeper to the driver's side.
I'm very happy with it. The unit works well, and the supplied beeper is super audible even with the top down. (I missed the audible alert; my RX-7 had one and I got used to having it.)

NICE! To confirm you used the molex plug that the yellow molex plug (Air bag) was attached to? I saw the blue wire but voltage was not what I was expecting for a pulsed (square wave) feed. Then again I did not have access to my Fluke last night.

Port 19
I am going with 2 since the module and speaker are already mounted in this area...

Best of luck! I did this a year or so ago, so can only go by my notes (instead of by memory)!

So, what you're saying is that on an '06, there is no solid blue wire on connector C204?

repiv,
Sorry for my bad choice of frustrated words. Yes can still make a connection at C204 but man is it a touch monster (pics.) You can use C303, drivers side dash or C204 which s where I a eventually went but low on the harness. Also, model years 06, 07, and 08 are all the same and I can send you an image of the entire schematic if you wish since you are deep into this stuff..

Thanks but I'm OK. I'm not really deep into it. I installed my Modifry shift beeper years ago for my self and another S owner. I was just trying to be of some help to you. And now that you've confirmed that the solid blue wire is still there, I can be more confident when advising others. I installed my shift beeper unit on the passenger side, so it was handy there. I ran a wire to the base of the A pillar where I have a louder beeper stuck there.
