View Full Version : Can you mill piston dome to drop compression?
Is there any reason why you can't machine the piston tops to drop compression for a turbo or s/c application?
To clarify, you can mill piston domes on many other vehicles. The issue seems to be how thin the piston top is, so caution says don't mill down past the base of the valve reliefs. I have never seen the s2000 piston out, so I have no idea how much meat is there to work with, but with people laying out over $5000 for 6psi blowers this seems like a step that would make sense.

Taking material off the pistons requires balancing the entire rotating assembly again. Then you don't know anything about the flame propagation (and so on) and could end up ruining it.
I had my head reworked using concave valves and the combustion chambers enlarged slightly while unshrouding the valves. That decreased the compression ratio. I'm now running about 10.5:1. More material could be removed. http://www.s2kca.com/photopost/data/500/790Dsc00023-med.jpg
