A few of us have made it to Keystone already. We get an extra day to settle in and browse around. I plan on getting the GPS unit loaded with our routes for the next few days. It sure is nice to sit back and not hear any traffic.
However to get back on task. This thread is for all of us attendees to post up our photos for the trip. This is the place to make all the other members jelous for skipping out on a great event. I will start things off with a photo from our drive over to Keystone.
Here is my wife, Melinda, outside the corn palace in Mitchell, SD.

I should have taken a sign of the "Fick Museum" I came across on the way up. Anybody speaking German will understand that joke. Everybody else can probably guess.
And no, I have no idea what that was all about.

Today's events took us through Custer State Park, to Wind Cave (fourth largest cave in the world?) and then to Custer for lunch before hiting Crazy Horse.
Lots of driving on some very nice roads:

We got rained on on the way back to the hotel, but thankfully it was just really big drops of rain and no hail. They did issue a tornado warning for the area, though.

Ted's (c-zap) car had a CEL and when they checked it out it was for a burnt valve on the #2 cylinder. It should be fixed tomorrow and the even better news is that AHM may take care of some portion of the cost even though it is an '02 it has only about 30,000 miles. Ted will be able to give more details but it is quite a story. Be sure to ask about the loaner that the dealership was able to come up with.

Well it's wednesday morning here in the hills and the group is getting ready for breakfast here at the K bar S Lodge. I'm still carless but the dealership in Rapid City (Rushmore Honda) has the car and is hoping to have the car repaired by this afternoon. They are replacing the exhaust valves in the #2 cylinder and I think one exhaust valve in the #1 cylinder.
I recieved a check engine light on my journey out here to S.D after filling up with gas. I thought it was the old gas cap not being tight enough and tried to ignore it. Well the light wouldn't clear so we reset the ecu and of corse the light cleared. The car seemed to be running fine , no different then before so I let it go. Well after I arrived here at the lodge I went to move my car and the light came on again. I got suspicous and refrained from driving the the following day even though myself and others here figured it was probably nothing. I'm glad I trusted my gut this time to say the least.
The people at Rushmore Honda have gone above the call of duty in trying to help me out. Super friendly Super accomodating and to top it off , what a loner car. Show them the pics Fred.

It is hard to let go of such a fun time. Three couples are spending the night here in beautiful downtown Pierre, South Dakota. Bob and Rachel, on their way back to Winnipeg, and Jason and Belinda, on their way to the twin cities by way of Brookings, SD, are sharing the evening with us here. This has been such a great time and all of the participants are super people. Today we met an S2000 owner from Sacramento, California when we were at the badlands. She was so excited to see us and, of course we gave her a "Join The Club" card. Safe travels to all.

Well I made it home lastnite about 7:30 local time. The car is running strong. My mileage has improved as well coming in at a best 29.9 mpg (top down even) compared to 26.5mpg before the head work.
I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rushmore Honda. Terry,Vicky,Jimmy,Tim,Nancy Fred and all the others who were involved who I may have missed. What a great group of people. I also would like to thank Honda for taking care of the majority of the cost. It's great to see a big company for a change stand behind its product. Kudos to them, I appreciated it for sure.
It was a pleasure seeing some new faces. Always nice to meet other club meambers and even people (future members :) ) that Denver corrals on the freeway.

We made it home to Larimore this afternoon after driving through some intermittent heavy rain again. We parted ways with Jason and Melinda just after leaving Pierre, SD, this morning and convoyed with Bob and Rachel to Fargo where we had lunch together before we headed home and they went to do a bit of shopping before heading on to Winnipeg. We SO enjoyed this week with its drives, sightseeing stops, and socialization opportunities. We are now getting ready for the USGP and, a bit later, S2KDays. Safe travels to all until we meet again.

Melinda and I made it home about an hour ago. We made a short stop in Brookings to visit her old campus. It was a fun trip home with a few surprises...
We bypassed the interstate highways and took backroads home. Along the way we had to take a detour. We found that US212 in Minnesota was under construction in the town of Bird Island. ALL lanes of traffic through town were torn up. We had to take a detour off-road and through a cemetery. Yes, the official detour routed us through a little roadside cemetery!
We are getting settled back in tonight and will post up photos later this weekend.

My Darlings!
We are FINALLY HOME. And guess what. It's - wait - wait for it - RAINING! Sigh.
We had a little off-road adventure, rain, sun, rain, nostalgia, all good.
Milo (our dog) is thrilled to have us home, and I am equally happy about sleeping in my own bed tonight.
What a splendid time we had this week.
I agree with the kudos to Rushmore Honda. They went ABOVE AND BEYOND. The loaner was great, the person that went with it was even better.
What fun it was to see all of the Circle tour people (except you Karwath!), and to meet the rest of you. What a blast.
I'm sure Jason (4U2NV) will be posting some of our pictures, and if possible a couple of the movies we shot.

Well, I am somewhere between OKC and Dallas, approx 360 miles to go tomorrow -- should be an easy drive.
For those who care: It was raining in Rapid City this morning when I left (naturally). In fact, it did not stop until I was in Valentine, NE (wherever that is -- I just follow the GPS). And as a matter of fact, I have been rained on in every single state that I crossed today.
Drought my butt.......

Got to Winnipeg at 7:30 pm Friday to sporadic rain. We did clear Canadian customs with the top down and made it about 40 miles to Morris MB before the rain forced us to re-roof. :waa:
We will have pictures to post as soon as there is time to download the camera and upload.
A lot has been said about all of the good things that happened and I won't repeat the accolades except to say that we had a wonderful time meeting new American friends and sharing experiences.
Fred and Rosemary, the drive home was a lot more fun with you along and the lunch in Fargo was a nice way to end the trip. If you are up in Canada vacationing or just mooching about there is always a bed and a meal here for you.
Jason and Melinda, thanks for organizing such a great time. You put a lot of effort into planning our days activities and timelines with no real hickups (except for Ted's great adventure).
This morning the novelty of freeway driving has worn off but perhaps near September I may be ready for another long drive to Indiana.
BTW the sky is partly cloudy and the temp is about 80 in the shade. Good day to wash the S.
Nice to be home.
Thanks to all,

We ran out of gas in a driving rainstorm on a very busy stretch of I-90, 3 miles across the Wisconsin border and 2 miles from the nearest gas station.
Hello AAA!
What a wonderful event this was. I could not imagine how much fun it would be.
Thank you all for accepting me in to your group.
Jason and Melinda…your exceptional efforts are most commendable.
Doug, I thank you for your perseverance, patience and perspicacity.
You have a nice car, too! :)
I hope I have an opportunity to see you all again and to take the road less traveled by—because it has made all the difference. (With due respects to R. Frost)

It has taken a while for me to get settled back in to routine since returning from our trip. I finally have our photos uploaded to the site and have everything ready to share with all of you.
Here is the K Bar S Lodge where we stayed for most of our trip.

First I helped Ted (c-zap) drop off his car at Rapid City Honda

First official stop of the day, Mount Rushmore. Typical group parking job. :)

This is all I have for photos on day 2. After leaving Mount Rushmore we drove some of the local twisty roads. I highly recommend Nemo Road! Nemo Road ended in Rapid City where we had lunch and picked up Ted. We spent a lot of time at the Honda Dealer. However, we got a new member out of the side stop (Hello MuthaClutcha). MuthaClutcha (Nancy) joined us when we left the dealership and we drove through Needles Hwy and US16A again before heading back to the lodge.

Day Three Travels
We drove through Spearfish Canyon in the rain, sorry no photos. :( From there we went to Belle Fourche. This is the center point of the USA. The Black Hills are the central most point for every one to have an S2K Days. Something to think about.

Next stop was Devils Tower. Here is what a rain storm looks like when traveling to the site.

Sorry no guns permitted. Our local Texan, Ulrich, thought about turning around at this point. :)
http://forums.s2kca.com/photopost/data/15331/medium/Black_Hills_Rally_081.jpg
Since Rose Mary was with him and she had an Eagle Pass for FREE entry, Ulrich decided to proceed.

Some of our group went their separate ways, so this is all those that went to Devils Tower.

As we walked up the path towards the base of the tower a miracle happened... The sun came out for about 5 minutes.

That was short lived. Here is a photo from the road after we left.

Here is one to make my wife happy. On the way back to our hotel, she was having fun taking picture of rainbows.

At dinner that evening we lost track of a few people. After thinking that we hunted everyone down we headed to the restaurant. We arrived and discovered that we had ditched Ulrich. Here is a picture of where he would have been seated.

Picked up a cabin filter At Rushmore Honda last week and they asked if I'd met up with this group. Sadly no as I was out of town at the time. Worse is that I can't see any of your pictures in either Firefox or IE. ARGH!

Everyone had a great time! I am thinking of arranging a Second Black Hills Rally in the Spring of 2009. As we get closer to the Summer driving season next year, I will get some plans together.

Both being able to see your pictures and you all returning in 2009 sound great. I had just retired the end of March and as stated above was out of town. Next time I hope to meet up with the gang. The parts manager, among others, was pretty complimentary about the visiting group.

Dammit, I cannot find any of my pictures from this trip -- I thikn they may have got lost during my last computer crash. There was the picture we took in the Badlands, with the mountain that looked hand-painted in the background that I wanted to include in the calendar. If any of y'all happens to have a copy or one that you took out there, please PM me and/or e-mail it to me.
Or any other pictures from the trip that you deem worthy. ;)
