I stopped in Rapid City and squirted off all the bugs from the front of my car. It was the best $2.00 that I spent today.
Ulrich, when are you going to get BP to sponsor an S2K event. You could get them to donate gas for all the attendees! :)

I paid $3.19 in Dallas last night. That 45 cent spike certainly was a shock to me. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come this week...
The BP station next to my hotel offers a 5 Cent discount for hotel guests. Too bad I filled up before i checked in. Dammit.

But surely the oil industry isn't taking advantage of consumers.... don't you keep telling me that they are just passing on the costs to the consumer and that they are making hardly any money even with exorbitant gas prices?

$3.19/gal in Dallas as well. In the United Kingdom, the price of petrol equates now to more than $10.00 per gallon. And the UK is a country that produces all of its own oil. The price difference is due to higher taxes. Now *that* is truly getting raped at the pump.
High crude prices (thanks to OPEC, especially Iran) and some seasonal effects are keeping prices high. Speculation plays a role as well.
I hope prices come down but, given the huge demand growth coming from China, India and other emerging economies, wouldn't attempt to predict the timing. Gasoline in demand in the U.S. also has changed very little in response to the higher prices. Until it does or the world economy hits the skids, we may need to get used to high prices. But not nearly so high as in the UK or continental Europe.

Huh . . . . I guess the oil companies have more power in the UK , continental Europe, Australia and Japan.
Thank goodness we live in the US where the oil companies are much nicer to the consumers. We certainly aren't paying $10 / gal here.

I don't like paying through the nose for gas either but I heard something that make a bit of uncomfortable sense to me. This is paraphrased but here you go. The only way to reduce dependence on foreign oil imports is to reduce demand for gas on the street. We still have some of the cheapest gas in the world and as long as it stays that way, we have to keep sending billions of dollars to countries that one, don't think very much of us and two, don't need oil as much as they need dollars.
I heard this on the Speed Channel so it must be true, right?
