For some reason it feels and sounds like my vtec isn't kicking in until around 6500 in 2nd gear. I have an ap2. Is it just me or something? Is this possibel?

I know oil levels and oil pressure are very important for VTEC.
Silly question -- check your oil level lately?
Are you throwing and CEL's?

Mine kicks in anywhere between 6k and 6.5k, but usually 6.5k. I think there are several factors that determine when it kicks in, so it does not necessarily mean something is wrong.

Is it still under warranty?

As Spartikus said, VTEC engagement depends on several factors and can vary slightly depending upon what factors are at work (oil pressure and temp, throttle position, load). Have you changed your driving style lately? Have you owned the car for long? At least long enough to say whether or not something in the car has changed that isn't due to a change in the way you drive it?

Once my '06 is warmed up it always kicks in @ 6000. It never varies.

like Repiv said.....and to clarify...load would include MAP signal...so at higher altitiude it tends to be a little bit later than at lower altitudes....at least this is the way it was explained to me....when I had noticed similar tendancies....mine is around 6250-6500 in the AP1 at the altidude here in the Reno are ~4800-5200 but in my hometown ~700 it is way closer to 6K

7 months with a new (different) hi perf car, may or may not be long enough to establish a consistent driving style. Additionally, the addition of any performance mod can have a tendency to affect our driving style (subconsciously) for a few weeks after installation.
On a side note, if I use part throttle (as opposed to WOT) while going through VTEC transition, the car can alter the rpm at which the onset and completion of VTEC takes place by a few hundred rpm.
