hey all,

i just picked up my '00 S2K and i had a question. i was driving home from work tonite and i was hearing a clicking sound identical to the sound of the turn signals, one click immediately followed by another ( and even when the turn signals were on i could still hear it because the click of the turn signals was timed differently than whatever this other click was). So i got home, backed it up into the garage and let it sit and the clicking stopped (it seems to only happen when the car is in motion, but it isnt the sound of something stuck in the tire or anything because the gaps of time between clicks is about 5-7 seconds). Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks :)

This may be a stupid question, but in your other post you said the weather was poor. You weren't driving with the wipers on were you? They have a fairly loud click that comes from under the dash.

nah, the roads were a little wet cause it had rained earlier but i didnt have them on driving home.

You need to provide more info. Is the clicking dependent upon road speed (what speed)? Engine speed (what speed)? Gear dependent (which gear)? Does it speed up as the car speeds up or does it speed up as the engine speeds up? Can you hear it if you just coast at speed with the clutch disengaged? Accelerating? Decelerating? Turning? Can you tell approx. where the sound is coming from?

sorry, i guess i was a little vague. It is occuring at all speeds and all RPMs, all gears. The time between clicks is identical no matter what the car is doing as far as speed or RPM. I didnt really test to see if it was still present with the clutch disengaged but i know it happens during both acceleration and deceleration, turning as well. It sounds like the sound is coming from the drivers side under the dash.

Just make sure you cut the correct wire or BOOM!

This is quite odd. So, what you're saying is that as soon as the car begins to roll, regardless of the road speed or rpm, the clicking begins and continues at the same frequency (or time interval). Usually, clicking is associated with the car rolling down the road and changes with speed (things like a rock in the tire tread or debris caught up in the brake pad or a wheel bearing failure or movement of the suspension with road undulations or transmission and rear diff and driveshaft noises) OR, associated with engine rpm (things like valve tick, injector tick, piston slap, timing chain tensioner, belt tensioner, accessory pulley bearing). Transmission or clutch clicking would be associate with both road speed and engine rpm.
Try to alter the speed setting of your interior fan, but then, that sort of ticking would continue even if you stopped the car, so long as the ignition was still on and the fan is working. You say it doesn't make this ticking as soon as the car stops rolling, so it can't be the fan. Even the radiator fan will have it ON/OFF cycles. The emissions airpump only works for the first few minutes after you start the engine (a few seconds if the engine is already warm). Then there's the fuel pump, but that should be coming from behind your head and generally, a noisy fuel pump is more of a constant high pitched whine and would occur whenever the engine is running, even if you're just sitting there not rolling.
Your 4-way flasher isn't on is it? :poke:
Other than the above, I can't think of anything on the car that would produce a steady, even ticking as soon as you begin to move and not change with the changes in road or engine speed. Even the rhythmic ticking of the exhaust system heating and cooling down would continue long after you shut the car down. Noises related to inner dash components rubbing on each other are usually related to normal vibrations in the operation of the car as it goes down the road, but again, as the speed of the car and of the engine changes, such squeeks, rattles and ticks in the dash would alter according to the changes in the car's vibrations.
