From time to time, we hear of someone tripping a Check Engine Light (Malfunction Indicator Light) and the code is P0411 (Secondary Air Injection Incorrect Flow). This system is part of the system that injects fresh air into the exhaust manifold after a cold start. This helps the catalytic converter process unburnt hydrocarbons at a time when it's most inefficient.
Usually, it's one of the following things:
- The lines get switched.
- The white check valve gets put back on backwards.
- The wiring harness to the solenoid valve is left unplugged
- One of the lines falls off or gets left off or is cracked.
These things can happen when a Cold Air Intake is installed or when the car goes in for service and the tech unplugs one for whatever reason and forgets to plug it back.
NOTE: The '06 and newer won't have this system as it dispensed with the air pump.
These lines "begin" and "end" here:
(Just under the corner of the fuel injector cover, one on top of the other.)

That black thing is your plastic cover over the intake manifold.
Let's start with the TOP one and follow it:
(It goes immediately to that little white check valve. Note its orientation.)

From the check valve, it goes into this cannister (this is mounted on the cross beam under the stock air box). (NOTE: disregard the darker pulley. You won't have this unless you have a supercharger.)

And then it exits the same cannister, but out the other side:

From there, it goes into this little valve assembly (note which hose goes in and which hose goes out). The one from the cannister in the previous pic goes into the "right angle" fitting that comes out the END of the valve assembly. The other "straight" fitting (closest to my thumb) then goes back up to the "bottom" line in the first pic. Also take note of the wiring harness that is connected to this assembly. It must be plugged in and it must be plugged in securely.

If you got a "CEL", then you need to correct the vacuum line routing as in these pics, then "reset" the "CEL" or it will stay on for a while. To do this, you need to pull the fuse in the 3rd SLOT (ECU backup fuse) on the right row of fuse in the underdash fuse panel. On Canadian cars, it is the 3rd fuse. On US (and other) cars WITHOUT "DRL's", it will be the 2nd fuse you find. Pull the fuse for about 30 seconds with the car OFF, put the fuse back in.
If the CEL light comes back after this, take a look at your air pump in the cavity behind the front left bumper cap. It has been known that the air pump housing has cracked from weird circumstance that causes it to leak.
