View Full Version : Replacing the Timing Chain Tensioner with Supercharger

Well, I have the playing cards on the bicycle spokes sound that just started. I am assuming it is the timing chain tensioner.

My delema is I don't want to pull the supercharger. I can R & R the chain tensioner without any problem from the SC but to pull the pin I have to pull the SC. Looking at my helms manual I am wondering if it is possible to sinch the new tensioner down with the 5 x 0.8 nut/bolt combo and pull the pin prior to installation and then remove the nut/bold combo that has retracted the tensioner. Any clues?

Thanks.

I can't answer this question for you but perhaps Billman250 can. He's done lots of these. For some reason, pulling the pin makes the spring "snap" into place. I'm wondering why it needs to snap rather than just releasing it by removing that bolt the loaded the spring in the first place.

Dave -

Have you ever had to replace yours? I know our cars are approximatley the same age and I have not. I'm wondering now if it's just a luck of the draw thing. Then again, I may be getting too deaf to hear it.

I've never changed mine. Still on the original. I, too, would like to know if it can be done without removing the S/C.
