hi, just wondering if the oil consumption in my 2.2 is in line with what others have experianced. i live in phoenix so the first change was done at 3500 miles. no loss of oil from new to 3500. just checked fluid level and after 1000 miles it is down 2 diamonds or 2/5 of a qt. i estimate usage of 1 qt between 2000/2500 miles of driving. i believe this is in line with the manual but i am curious about what others have found and if it seems normal to have used none until 3500 and then start using oil after the first change. thanks phil

I have an AP2 and have had no oil consumption problems. I changed my oil at 1800 miles and very 2000 miles after that. I currently have 21000 miles on my 05.

currently with 26k miles on my 04, and it hasn't used a drop.
dont scare the man! Any of you guys drive hard, or use Vtec atleast 2 times a drive? the use of Vtec will change your oil comsupsion a lot. My self for example, I will burn a qt every 2k if I just have fun with the car, if I race I burn up to a qt every 1k. But the oil that you use makes a big difference. I no longer burn any oil at all, even racing with Mobile 1 Synth. When i used plan Mobile I would burn what I have stated. So take that into account too. I have 61,000miles on mine

i use castrol syntec, that may be why i don't burn any. i hit vtec a LOT
well we dont know what oil he is using, and I was burning oil with dyno oil. but the change over to synth I stopped all comsumpsion

Up until the last oil change, I was using Pennzoil and no problem. The last change i put in Mobil 1 synthetic. Yes, I V tech a lot.

i believe this is in line with the manual
I wasn't aware that the manual gave any indication on what normal oil consumption is. Has the manual changed of late?
I would say, even for an AP2, that 1qt every couple thousand miles or so is not alarming, however, the general trend for AP2's is that these are much more disinclined to using oil at all. Keep track of the consumption, based on the type of driving you do, to see if it changes. Like already asked, what brand and viscosity and type of oil did you go with at that last change?
I suppose it is entirely possible that you have a bad PCV valve, in which case, try to have it checked out or even replaced with a new one. They aren't that expensive. If the situation continues, I would suggest getting a "Krankvent" and install that in the PCV line. It's like a high priced PCV valve, but much better in preventing excess oil loss through the PCV system.

I have a MY04 AP2 and hit Vtec a few times almost every time I go out. During the 7,000 mile engine break-in period with the original Honda oil I burned about 1/2 quart. Haven't burned a drop since and have run about 20,000 miles total.... no track. Used Honda oil up to 12,000 and then switched to Castrol Syntec.

I have an 06, and after 24K miles, I haven't burned any oil at all. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30 after 11K miles. Dyno oil before, but no consumption. I Vtec more then 3 times daily.

my two cents: i haven't burned any noticeable oil in 15,000 on my '05. dyno up to 13,000; mobil synth since.

I have a MY '05 8,000 mi. using Mobil 1 10W-30. The car had never used any oil until I tracked it. It used over 1 qt. during 2 days of HPDE (lots of VTEC). Since then it hasn't used any more oil with occ VTEC in city driving.

thanks for all of your input and suggestions.
as you suspected repiv the manual has not changed. i reread it after reading your reply and it only says to check at fillup. i must have gotten my info reading the forum and somehow attributed it to the manual. getting old is tough!! beats the other option. i had the oil changed at a honda dealer when they installed my oem front lip. i believe it was 10/30 dyno oil. told them no synthetic until it gets to 10000 miles. i pulled ouy my reciept and recalculated the miles driven since the oil change. 1200 miles and 2 diamonds down should equate to 3000 miles to use a quart. occasional vtec around town. it does seem that the 2.2 uses very little or no oil according to the replies.
as suggested i will monitor and see what transpires.a new pcv valve and then a switch to synthetic at 10000 and krankvent after that if no improvement is seen with the pcv. don't mind adding a little oil but it will be interesting to see how things progress. this is a GREAT car.

IMO. Oil consumption has a lot to do with the way a car is broken in. I followed the break-in procedure in the manual with religion. After the 600 miles, I drove it hard. I have not used a drop of oil. I waited until 5,000 miles for the first oil change (I didn't like that). I now have 6,000 miles and have not used any additional oil.
I drove down to the Dragon in NC this past fall. It is a 1600 mile round trip from NJ. There was lots of VTEC and high rpms once there. There was no additional oil usage there either. I am waiting to 10,000 miles to switch to Synthetic (Amsoil).

your problem might be that the dealer changed your oil.
when i had a my03 i had them do my 1st oil change. the idiots
they are put in 20 weight oil, i was a little pissed, but they
corrected the situation. also the my03 burned oil no matter
what i used. the my05 that i havenow doesn't/hasn't burned any oil. i have used dino/mobile 1/royal purple, which is what i am using now. did you check the oil level when you got it back from the dealer? wouldn't hurt to do as repiv said and get a new pcv valve.
good luck

If you are having oil consumption issues, you need one of these:

i've had my '06 since september, the OEM fill i kept for about 4200 miles, i topped it once with less than 1/4 quart. i changed to castrol dino, within the first 300 miles of oil change i added about 1/2 quart, since then (~1000 miles) less than 1/4 a quart. that freak half quart immediately following the oil change i account to having drained my oil for a long, long time (every last drop, on an angle) and not filling the filter with oil + dino + vtec. since the dino has been in a while oil usage has fallen in line with what everyone else seems to have found on the ap2...it sips. i'm waiting until 12,000 to switch to synth...probably mobil 1 with OEM or mugen (but damn those are $$$) filters.

'04/50,000 mi. I check oil at every fill-up. Except for having to top off factory oil once, have not added one drop. Been using Mobile 1 10w30 since 4000 miles and change every 3500 -4000.

S2000 07 model oil experience:
o Had to add a quart at less than 1000 miles, but since the level has remained full since I have to assume it was low from Honda.
o Ran the original oil until 15% came on at 5300 miles.
o Switched to full synthetic and Honda 15400-PCX-004 filter.
o Interestingly the oil filter from Honda was a Honda Filtech assembled in the USA -- 6-holes and all. I expected a Japanese filter would have been used when the car was manufactured?
o Was able to change from the top -- this was great compared to my Porsche.

I only use Mobil 1 full synthetic, but when I use the extended 15,000 Mobil 1, even though I change every 3,000 miles and drive it harI, I can go through oil. Having said all that, when I was in CA, they don't offer the extended 15,000 mile oil so I had to use the regular Mobil 1 synthenic oil. Now having to drive back to Denver in the summer and the heat and at 80-120MPH at times, I did not go through a drop of oil. I called Mobil and they said that that is possible to go though oil when using the extended 15,000 oil.

My AP2 with 36000 miles (and a lot of VTEC time) does not appear to have consumed a drop between oil changes.
