I am changing my oil for the first time. I purchased oils filters from my local dealer. When I took the old filter off it was larger then the one that was sold to me. After looking at several web sites, they all sell Honda #15400-PCX-004 but my dealer sold me #15400-PLM-A02.
Btw, the oil filter that I removed was #15400-PCX-004
Does anyone know if there is a difference other that size? I am not going to run the engine until I'm sure.

Update - I called the dealer and was told that the smaller filter is what they put on "all of them". He reassured me that it would cause not damage.

The filter you have is NOT recommended for the S2000. As stated in the link:
"Comments: Made in the U.S. by Fram, and probably equivalent to the Fram part #7317 pictured above, this was the universal Honda OEM filter specified for use in most Honda cars until mid-2003, but NOT the S2000. It is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM S2000 filters, and was widely recognized as being a generally poor-to-mediocre filter."
I have used Fram filters since my first oil change in the S 4 years ago without any problems. I have used Fram exclusivly on all my vehicles since 1985 with no problem.
**EDIT** Sorry Dave, I didn't realize this was in the Viper's Den until after I posted.

the PLM is the "right" one, but the NEW "right" one is the 15400-PCX-004.
the PCX filter is supposed to be pretty similar inside to the JDM HAMP one, just bigger.

If you have an owner's manual, I strongly suggest you take a good look at it. This sort of information will be contained therein. If you don't, I would recommend you get one or the service manual from Helminc.com.
For now, oil changes are based on time or mileage, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. "Normal" service would be every 7500 miles or 12 months. "Severe" (which most people fall under - check owner's manual for the definition) would be 3750 miles or 6 months. Your car takes 10W30 motor oil. Castrol GTX if you want to stay "dino" oil or Mobil 1 if you wish to go synthetic. These are but 2 of many good oils you can use.
However, since you have a brand new car, some say you should stay away from synthetic till you get about 7500 miles on it. This will ensure the rings seat properly in their liners. I would suggest you do the oil change now and keep to non-synthetic. Change your filter, too.
Don't be misled by those who will tell you that the factory oil is some kind of "special" or magical oil. It is not. Even Acura put out a statement to this affect. So don't worry about dumping the "pixie dust" that your original oil doesn't contain. :p
